I answered a call today. The robo voice said: “Your Amazon account has just been charged $77.49 for an order. If you made this purchase, press one. If you did not make this purchase, call 206-462-4183 immediately. I hung up and asked my wife if she bought anything. She said no so I got on Amazon and sent them a message. A minute later, my phone rang and it was a rep from Amazon. I explained what happened and gave him the number. He said that Amazon NEVER calls customers and that the call was a scam to try to get my account info.
Watch out, everybody! I almost called the number but a little paranoia stopped me.

I got a call from a restricted number that had a recording saying it was the Social Security Administration and that my SS number had been hacked. That's as far as I got then hung up.

It’s getting to the point that I don’t answer the phone unless I know the person on caller ID. Not really good for business but if it’s a legit caller they leave a message
Same here. If they don't leave a message I instantly block them.. If it does any good blocking them I don't know. There is some guy that keeps sending text messages wanting to buy my house. I've blocked him 5-6 times but he or she keeps sending text from different numbers.

The worst thing you can do is answer the phone. That tells the computer that the phone number is “live”. Then your number gets put on a list (which is then sold) and the calls start pouring in. I never have answered an unknown number.

FOLKS: IF YOU DON’T RECOGNIZE THE CALLER, DO NOT ANSWER THE CALL.

Good advice on not answering. Just listen to the message if they leave one. My thorn in the side is windows tech. They call from several number so blocking them does no good. I go through the procedure to register them with do not call, for all the good that does.

I answered a call today
First mistake!!:( Answering machines are the BOMB!! "Please leave a message after the tome". CLICK. I'll get Hello, Hello? Not much of a message huh?;)
Then, I'll check my cell phone. One message from Track Phone. You answer it and they charge you. They deduct minuted off your phone. Good reason NOT to answer my phone. But if they deduct minutes, they have a long way to go. I think the wife and I both have something like 5000 minutes each.:D

Got the same call ,then yesterday it was in the local paper warning people.

This brings up another point; In the case of Windows Tech Support, their message has a number to call. Most often that number is not the number that called me so I report the number that called and the number they gave me to call. Two for one. Bingo. The intended original call was/is that I have a balance on my refund account (Huh?) Call them and give them the account to send the money. Right.

I am getting the SS calls also. All from Texas, I tracked the phone numbers and they were all private numbers that they were pulling so that it could not be traced back to them. POS's

The other day I got 6 in about 4 hours. Generally if I don't recognize the number I let Voicemail take it. If they don't leave a message then probably a scam or a telemarketer. But these were on my work cell phone and I don't get a caller ID unless I have saved them into my contacts.

Called the SS Admin and they have a recording indicating that this is a nation wide scam.

I just hit the Loto meet me at the dark corner of 3rd street and Washington Blvd. I will pay you in cash. I just need you to put a day glo orange 1 inch dot on your chest so I know who you are.

Another currently popular scam is a 1 ring hangup from a foreign country. Thought is that you will call back to see who it was. never call back. I haven't done it but I understand you will get a recording in a language you don't speak, or if you do speak it, the message will be innocuous. But the call will show on your phonebill with a not-innocuous charge. --Jerry

PS: Hold on, now how do you know Tom Mote?

All kinds of calls. I get calls from support at Microsoft. I tell them I have a Mac. The IRS is issuing a warrant for my arrest. I told them to be sure and wear Kevlar underwear. I get them in email too. Sometimes the message is a screen capture of the original site (no actual text) and is linked someplace if you click on it. Always check properties and see where it actually came from. Bank account problems, Amazon, Ebay, credit cards issues, the FBI, from people in your email list, and anything to prompt you to answer. If you think it's legit, hang up and call the real number that you looked up. Free alarm systems. I told them I have a 12 gauge alarm system that has never failed me yet. Even if it's real, do you want some strangers casing your house out and know everything you have? I also won free vacations. I told them to give it to someone else because I've already won 6 vacations this month and don't have time to take them all. I hope congress can do something about all these robo calls.

Blocking or reporting those spoof numbers is useless. Ive had them call from numbers i have programmed in. Youd have to block every number in existence cause they just spoof random numbers
