Danny Huffines installed his 20 MOA rail on his new Sako TRG and set a NF ACTAR MOAR T on top and brought it by the DOME this evening. We met at Pizza Hut and continued to the DOME with rain threatening. I had a backup 284 Win that I purchased from THUD last year. I had only fired it 10 times and I wanted to try the 183 SMK's in it. I loaded the 10 cases I had for it and hoped for the best. Both of us zeroed at 100, then went to 800. Danny popped Ole Chuckie a couple of times and we were ready to go to the top of Ole Rocky Top and make an attempt on the 18 inch plate at 1430 yards. Soon as we got our equipment set up, the light drizzle started.
Now I am hopeful because I only have 4 shots left for the 1430 yard attempt.
I dialed the 284 up 42 MOA and my first shot was a little high. Second shot was closer. Third shot went just under the plate. Fourth and final shot I held at 12 noon and touched her off. The plate shook and I had a center mass hit. Pressure off.
Danny began his assault and it only took a few shots until the big 338 connected. We were ready to get the equipment in the dry but I told him to take a couple of more shots for a video. His second shot on the video was a hit but I turned the camera off before he announced the hit.
