what can you folks tell me about the savage model 10 predator? the guy at wal-mart said that in the book they order from it has a medium contour barrel, i want something with some weight will this work? any info would be great thanks.

oh yeah it should have around a 12 twist how heavy a bullet should that handle, i would like to shoot some 60 grainers will a 12 twist do this?

Yes, a 12 twist should stabilize 60 gr., maybe even a little heavier.

What Caliber is it? if it's a 223 try and get a 1in9 twist.I have a model 12 fv which is almost identical to the preditor but is all black.It shoots 55gr up to 75gr pretty good.It really likes the 69gr sierras and 55gr v-max is murder on coyotes.

jraney: Yes, glad fatalbert picked up on that. I missed it & thought it was a 223. Anyway, my Shilen barreled 1-12, 22-250 stabilized 60 gr. with no problems, but that was nearing max. Much over that & groups would start to open up, so my answer still stands. fatalbert: The Sierra 69 gr. #1380 MatchKings have consistantly been my first choice with all my 9 twists. Something about that combination that it just seems to work---- all the time, over the years and hundreds of groups.

"Medium contour" is sort of a vague term, I would think. Why don't you contact Savage (customer service) and put the question to them? Ask them what the diameter is at the muzzle. Approx. .750" and larger is what I consider to be varmint contours. Get to .850" and larger & they really start to get heavy.
