New Reloading Manuals

I was looking at a Sierra Loading Manual. A lot of the newer powders were not listed. It said it was copyrighted in 2003. Does anyone know when the new ones will be published? Or for that matter, any of the loading manuals.

Call Sierra.

I did call Sierra within the last 6 months, about something else, and asked them when a newer edition was to be released. The tech's reply "I guess we're overdue for a new one, aren't we?" suggested to me they are not working up data feverishly for the next manual, i.e. it might be quite a while yet - if ever.

Consider how tough it must be to keep up with all the new cartridges and powders. It's a major PITA and a rather expensive project, which used to be manageable when there were far fewer cartridge / powder combinations. It takes years to work up all the data for a manual, and meanwhile by the time you're almost done, new cartridges and powders have been released. It's like painting the Golden gate bridge.

A bullet company like Sierra might be better served to simply let Hodgdon and all the other powder companies do the work, testing only their own powders, since shooters can collate the different data ourselves from online listings, or a few powder company manuals. Why should a bullet company be expected to test all the different the powders out there? In reality, they can no longer manage it. You're going to find more and more powders (even quite appropriate ones for a particular cartridge) skipped over. Where there used to be 10 useful powders for a particular bullet weight, now there might be 20 or 30.

Have you noticed Hodgdon has already eliminated some cartridges (even newer ones like the 243 WSSM) from their annual guide? There simply isn't room for everything in that condensed magazine format.
