Obviously, if the barrel has been melonited, that's your trouble.
I used to have similar issues when chambering barrel blanks using dascool and running low rpm's.
Once I got well into the chamber, it would become increasingly difficult to push further. Chambers looked like polished glass. Normally when I did get the bugger started again, the body of the reamer would pull more chip than the shoulder for a brief moment. Almost no heat was present.
Running 200+ rpm's with an oil flush these days with a fairly aggressive feed rate and no more troubles.
