NEW PRODUCT! IDB MARS Tripod rear support

With more and more people using tripods as a rear rest in PRS/NRL/MARS style matches, Tony at Impact Data Books came up with an innovative idea to help them get more stable and be able to move positions easily and even have a place to set the rifle butt without it sliding. He called it the MARS(Mini Anchor Rear Support) Rest *Patent Pending*. He has different sizes for different tripods. Below is his website with them and his video showing the product.

It’s a Warhorse Clede bag attached to his plate. Same as people do attaching a game changer but the Clede has four separate legs so looks like more.

I shoot PRS and I think we should call I prs Bench rest. Just like bench rest hunter is shot with a fancy front rest and a rear sand bag. Instead of being the shooters skill its become how much crap can you hang off the gun and tripods etc.

PRS has gotten the nickname Barricade Benchrest because it is a lot more about the position. That said it's part of the game now so you have to work with what the game has become. I have shot tactical long range matches, which morphed to PRS, for over 20 years and it hasn't always been like this. If you don't want to shoot it like that with all the bags etc then don't and shoot it how you like.

BUT DON'T help the lower shooters with some spotting help heaven forbit they get a few extra hits!!!!!!!!

Not sure where you shoot but that's not how it is everywhere. Matches I shoot both centerfire and rimfire are always out to help new shooters.

IMO, its evolved into a bit of a silly game full of contrived props to shoot off of. The way that guns and gear has evolved to match PRS and its evolution kind of says it all. All practicality has been lost in the sport.

This new product seems a bit gimmicky. It's not hard to use tripod for a rear support, its a pretty simple technique. I think many new shooters rely on tripod rear support waaaaaaay too much anyways. This new tool is a crutch, not one that will help the shooter evolve. IMO of course.

It's not meant to help anyone evolve. Don't make more of it than there is. It's to help them get rear support easier than using a hand and being more stable than the hand. If they want to be practical and not use anything but a 6 pound rifle with a 5 round internal magazine shooting factory .308 then they can but for people wanting to find an easier way to use the tripod for rear support to be more competitive in matches this product is here for them to do that.

The same evolution statement could be said about F Class and Benchrest shooting.

Time and time again on this site people love to degrade PRS type shooting.

The “contrived” props you speak of make things new or fresh nearly every time you shoot. Shooters have evolved as well and it’s amazing what kind of accuracy the top tier shooters can achieve from an improvised position over a contrived barricade.

Agree shooters use rear support way more than they should in many cases but I’m not sure how this attachment is anymore gimmicky than any other product designed to help achieve a more stable position.

I've shot a decent amount of PRS matches. I'm not denigrated it because I'm an F-class or BR shooter (I'm not).

I do think the sport is moving in a direction away from the practical roots of its beginning, when the focus was more on marksman skills than gear. I think gear like this is pretty silly and "gamery", but that's just my worthless opinion.

Of course, whether PRS is heading in the right direction or not is subjective and a matter of opinion.

I guess in PRS shooting and the like, all this stuff is a aid. But for general hunting, stalking, etc I sure would not want to pack all that stuff around. But then again it is not really made or intended for the old boots on the ground hunting.

I don’t compete in prs but I think it’s great to see anything that can improve performance. I don’t see the point in putting a lid on any competition shooting. If there’s enough demand to have separate classes that restrict performance to allow less expensive competition than so be it. But let it grow to see where it ends up. That’s how I see it
