New PPC shopping cart

I decided to pickup a 6ppc from a well known shooter that wanted to sell. It’s a panda in a terry Leonard stock, 262 chambering.

this will be my first ppc and wanted to see what all I need to purchase to get started. Everything I have is 6br related. I do already have dies for the ppc.

I guess I find this question to be odd: because aside from the cartridge base and bullet weight, the 6PPC and 6BR have far more in common than different.

What are your goals? Having new barrel(s) on the way is probably good advice. Wind flags, custom bullets, etc. But what do you plan to do with the new gun? What reloading equipment do you already have from 6BR loading that you might use to prep brass and load a 6PPC right now? Do you have well matched rest, front bag, and rear bag? Do you have die bushings for .260 necks? Do you have an appropriate optic?

Then we can spend your money with purpose.

My post was to determine the Non interchangeability on ppc based cartridge compared to 308/br

like shell holders case gauges still like that. No barrels bullets and powdered. Basically the essential reloading tools I may not have that are strictly ppc based. Hope that clarifies my vague post.

I plan to order everything over thanksgiving and would prefer to get it all done at once

I envy you. Leonard stocks are beautiful.

Short answer: your 6 BR reloading stuff won’t transfer to 6 PPC. Different head size, so different shell holder and loading block. Both inexpensive, though. You’ll have to figure out how you want to get brass. If you use Lapua .220 Russian as most do, that means either turning the necks (with a .262 chamber, unturned Lapua won’t fit) or find someone to make the cases for you, specifying how much clearance you want in the chamber.

For a .262 neck, you will need:
Lapua .220 Russian brass
Neck turning tool
Custom F.L. bushing sizing die
Wilson chamber seating die, with micrometer adjustment
Wilson case trimmer, with micrometer adjustment
Custom bullets (assuming a 1:14 twist, 66-70 gr.)
LT 32 powder
CCI BR4 primers
The best scope/rests you can afford
Wind flags
This is just a list of what I use, you can adjust to fit your needs.
You will love your new ppc, so much fun making tiny groups!

I went from PPC to 6BR this year so a similar but inverse experience.

Aside from the obvious different dies, powder, brass, and bullets, I reused my loading block, powder funnel, shoulder bump gauge, and primers. I did need new shell holders, trimmer collet, neck bushings, and whatever tools required to prep and fire form the brass. I have an AMP annealer and they use different bushings in that system too.

What is the typical neck bushing sizes for 262 chamber. I’m assuming loaded ammo is .260

You may get various opinions on optimal loaded neck diameter for a .262 neck. As Dusty said, .0086" - .0087" neck thickness is the old standby that has served many well. I used it for years with a .257 bushing as he said. Bear in mind, that will give you less than .002" total clearance in your chamber, which is less than .001 on each side. If you go that route -- and it is a good one -- you'll want to be sure of your neck thickness measurements.

I think that recently some have been going to more clearance, i.e., thinner necks ("cut thin to win" as the saying goes). In my current batch of 6 PPC brass, I'm using more clearance and it works well. Just another option to consider.

Jack Neary, a world-class benchrest shooter, has a series of videos on tuning the 6 PPC. You can see the first one here:
. They're worth watching, and he discusses neck clearance in one of them.

I don't want to tell you stuff you already know. Do you have a neck turner?

I have tried from .0082 to .0086 and see no appreciable difference. I settled at .0084. Pick a width and move on. Spend your time ciphering the load and ciphering wind flags. They are going to take a while; or maybe I am just slow.

Btw, N133 is the powder of choice and the load really does change on some days during the day or it seems like from hour to hour.

Great guys in this site. Willing to help and they have all of the answers.
