New Pierce Action -- UPDATED 4/12/06

John Pierce, the fellow that makes the Rem. fire controls) is making a new action.

At Harrisburg last weekend I got a look at one of the first...looks like a winner, and felt like one too.

Amazingly smooth re-cocking...similar or better than the Viper and BAT's

Cro-mo for now, but SS if the demand is there.

lots of EDM work, but dont remember the full specs.

I was pretty impressed.

Looks a lot like a remington reciever. Is it the same footprint? Looks light as well. Do you know what kind of clearance he has with the bolt closed? For those that need the light stuff for lightgun class, that might be just the ticket!

WHAT WRONG WITH Remington . Can't they see that they could do a lot less machining on there receivers and make closer tolerances on the bolt ways, and sell more guns and make more money at less cost, Savage is doing it . With all the custom makers making Remington copy cat receivers . This is what they should have done with the XR100 . I guess they want to be like Winchester.

Prototypes in about one month

Right bolt Right port short action

Price around $850.00

Remington footprint

Scope bases same as Predator, two Remington front bases)

Stainless Steel is coming. When?????

I may drive down to see one in the flesh before spring.
Don't know if this answers any questions but may help.

I spoke to John this afternoon. John quoted $850.00 with a Rem extractor or $875.00 with a Sako extractor. The OD is 1.350" for a drop-in fit to a stock inletted for a Remington. The action uses a PTG,Kiff) one-piece bolt with modifications to the bolt handle/cam for improved smoothness.

I was down to John's Wedensday. We are making a rifle with one of his actions.

First, the actions look like a custom BR action. They are made to BR toerances. They will be made of chrome moly at first, stainless steel to follow if the demand is there. Jewell or other custom triggers will fit. Essentially what you have is a custom BR action with a Remington footprint.

We are using one of these actions to make a light hunting gun with a Borden Rimrock stock and #3 .22 X 14" twist barrel, 22" long. It will be chambered for .22 PPC, .100" short.

NOW, we wil also have a fat match barrel for BR shooting in the same caliber. We will have a benchrest stock so I can change barrels and stocks and shoot it in BR matches.

All I will have to do is switch barrels, move it to the BR stock and screw on a higher power scope... my 7-1/2 lb. hunting gun will become a,I hope) killer benchrest gun. Obviously the gun will be a "screw together".

We hope to have it together and shooting by the Super Shoot.

UPDATE:

Pierce actions are now being sold only thru John Pierce, not thru the distributor mentioned previously:

John Pierce shop number: 517-321-5051

I talked to John yesterday, and he is expecting some to be available in the next couple of months.

It would be best if you started a new thread, regarding the Lawton actions. That way, there is a definitive place to look for info, and you're not stepping on the current thread.
