New optics for .22 rimfire?

My bone stock 77/22 has worn 3 different scopes to date, and none have shown to be the particularly superior. the rifle shoots .311 several brands of ammo. Just got some Wolf Match Rifle looking for something just a tad tighter and slightly more consistent.

TASCO World Class 6-24 with fine cross hairs and target dot
Sightron I 4-16 with fine cross hairs and target dot
BSA Platinum 6-24 with fine cross hairs and target dot

Just got a B&L 6-24 with fine cross hairs. Anxious to mount it and give it a try.

I think there are several ingredients to producing good groups. 1) decent rifle, 2) shooters ability, 3) decent scope, not necessarily costing upwards of $800, 4) decent ammo, not necessarily super high priced, but good affordable stuff like CCI Std, Norma TAC-22, some Aguilla, and CCI Blazer.
# 2 is definitely one of the most important ingredients. A $1400 scope is not going to make a poor shooter into a good good one nor is the most expensive ammo~!!

You can sometimes find a good scope priced right on this site, but I picked up mine off of Ebay~!!

I happen to like scopes in the 6-24 power costing under $200. I've bought TASCO World Class and Sightons 2nd hand but exceptionally clean. I like the variables because they serve several purposes namely target shooting, plinking, and hunting. I broke that general rule once when I spent Just over $500 for a B&L Balvar 6-24 which was still new in the box with 2 lens shades and extra target turrets. Don't think that you have to spend a ton of money for a scope.
Now for a sad story. I went to the last gun show on a Sunday not looking to buy anything but some .22 ammo and some cleaning supplies. TNext thing I know, there it was, a Unertl scope for my Miroku 1885 Winchester which I've lusted over for ages. It had the mounts, was very clean, no fog or dust on the lenses, and the guy was asking $200. I had already bought my ammo and cleaning stuff so I didn't have anywhere near the $200 left. I had forgotten my Boy Scout motto, "be prepared". I did however remember the Pennsylvania Dutch saying "We grow old fast and schmart slow".

Looking for a new .22 rimfire scope to be mounted on a Ruger 77/22 sporter.

Main shooting will be ground squirrels and starlings. Will be doing some plinking also. Very little bench work other than testing ammo and sight-in work.

For close to 20 years, I've been using a Weaver 2.5-7 rimfire scope, but it came up ill and is off being repaired.

Would like something variable in the 3-10 range around $300 or less.

Any suggestions on what is decent scope for this application? I've been out of the loop for quite some time concerning rimfire scope purchases.

Thanks.
I have a Ruger 77/22 topped with a TASCO World Class 6-24. I cost me under $150 and I'm quite pleased with it. Shot a .311 at 50 yards using TAC-22.
Watch Ebay and you'll find a Sightron, a BSA, or a TASCO World class well with-in your budget. Buy one from a guy who accepts returns, save some money, and shoot some bug holes~!

I have two Ruger 77s, one .22 LR and one .22 Hornet. I set up
both with Bushnell Banner dusk and dawn 4-12 power w/AO (I have four of these) and they work fine.
Clear glass and $90 shipped off Feebay.
