Anyone here get their hands on the new ptg 6 dasher reamer that shiraz had made for the new 6 dasher brass yet? I'd really like to rent or buy your reamer. This will be used on my personal barrel. New blank. Bullets.com doesn't have any in stock or I'd just buy one. Can anyone help me out? Thanks lee

Lee, just get a piloted neck reamer, or even a chucking reamer the size of your neck and extend the neck. I have used chucking reamers, concentricity between the neck and case was not measurable. You only have to go about .040" or so.

I thought about this, but I have always felt I had better results with one set up. Im in no big hurry. I can wait until the reamers become available. I appreciate the advise thought. Lee

I have been reading this thread about this new brass which is great but why is this guy trying to make these necks longer a lot of work with the regular dasher or buy a new reamer a lot of extra work in my opinion.

rwh and tclaunch...did you use the same print for your JGS reamer that Shiraz posted a few weeks back (one for PTG reamer)? I'm curious to hear about any changes you might have made. My JGS dasher reamer has .140 freebore...I figured with the longer neck that .100 would be close to ideal. I plan to order a JGS reamer for new longer neck soon.
Thanks in advance!

Your .140 freebore will be a .100 freebore if you make the neck .040" longer. In reality the bullet will still be in the same place but the numbers change.

I don`t like the numbers at the .200" line so I went min SAMMI with .4714" at the shoulder .4609" tapered the neck from .271" at the case mouth to .272 at neck shoulder, for a light cleanup and spot for do-nut to live out of the way, and enlarged the freebore diameter to .2438"" in case Berger dies get to making fat, fat bullets again. I kept the chamber oal 1.605" shoulda went .010" longer, but I didn`t. I use a .140" freebore and have since 2011.

I fear the listed reamer will require a custom FL die.

Crap!
I was all set to have my Dasher reamer reground to increase the chamber length but I hadn't thought about the change to the sizing die!
Maybe John Whidden can make one up for us soon. In fact I'm emailing them tonight. I'll post up any reply.

Mine lasted 3000 rounds I never had a problem. And I only size half of the neck to hold the bullet . Larry
How about the ability to shoot a bullet .040" longer with the same freebore. A guy that wanted to shoot short bullets and gets a shorter freebore would be able to shoot a bullet a lot longer and not eat into case capacity like he would have to with a short necked dasher.

If you don't like or want the longer neck the answer is easy for you, stick with what you have and don't worry about what other people are doing.

When you fire them fast like in 600 or 1000 yard BR. The Dasher is hard on throats. I had one go at 350 rounds and another at 500. Usually Benchrest accuracy will last 1000. After that it starts going the other way from what is needed to win. The longer neck would make it last longer because it changes the TP point. More would burn in the case and not torch the throat as bad. It would make it closer to a BR and you also could chase the throat longer. Matt

I was under the impression that Whidden Gunworks was already making FL sizing dies for the new brass? I like his dies and Ill probably try one before I tool up and make one. Lee

Does anyone know if we will have to get a new Go gauge or will the headspace remain the same as with Lapua brass? thanks Lee
