New Nitride barrel

I'm doing a test so to speak on a CM barrel for a 20 cal of mine that I had nitrided, you guys who have done this before how did you clean the barrel before shooting after it was nitrided?

Just like I'd clean a black powder rifle barrel. A bucket of steaming hot, soapy water and a bronze bore brush. Rinse with boiling water.

Just a patch and solvent. Nitriding is a surface hardening process, no extra care needed.

You will probably have the salts left from the process.Myself and the guys that I know that have done several, we put them in a tub of water for a couple days. Give it a JB and your good to go.

A whole lot of Butch's solvent and patches to clean out that mess. But she is like black chrome inside.
I am testing a WOA Wilson service rifle barrel I had treated to see if more life at 600 yards can be found passed say 2500-3000 rounds given its button barrel and we usually retire then to back up to 3 gun guys once we hit that round count.. Just a fun test bed idea for this barrel change.

I think the problems some have had with barrels after having them back nitride treated is, they are not removing the salts that get left behind from the process. After all, it is called 'salt bath nitriding'. After brushing/cleaning it doesn't hurt anything to make a pass or 2 with JB or ISSO just to make sure you got as much out as possible before mounting and firing it. The surface is so hard you'd have to really go crazy with either of these mild abrasives to hurt anything.
