New N555 Powder from Vihtavuori -- H4350 Burn Range

Here is Big News for hand-loaders now using Hodgdon H4350 and Alliant Reloder 16. Vihtavuori just announced N555, an advanced new powder in the same relative burn range as H4350/RL16. Along with having a suitable burn rate for popular accuracy cartridges such as 6.5 Creedmoor and .284 Winchester, Vihtavuori’s new N555 is formulated for “clean burning characteristics and insensitivity in extreme weather conditions”. Complementing its temp stability, N555 includes an anti-fouling agent to keep barrels cleaner. In addition, Vihtavuori claims that N555’s “unmatched lot-to-lot consistency also eliminates costly range time re-developing your favorite loads”.

Forum Boss: It will be interesting to test this powder and see how the accuracy and temp stability compare with popular powders H4350 and RL16. This powder is due at USA dealers in May of 2020. We'll try to get our hands on some for testing before then. VV LINK: https://www.vihtavuori.com/new-n555-high-energy-powder/

I really like their powders, but not a lot of people can get over the higher price.
Also the 500 series of powders are double based and run quiet a bit hotter
you get more speed, but at what cost.
I might have to try some anyways to see how it stacks up against the others.

If they could make N160 totally temp stable, they would have something.

If it hasn't already been modified to Viht's new "temperature-stable", it will be soon. All N500s are in this category and the N100 range is being done progressively. I bought 1kg each of N150, 160, and 165 last month at the UK importer a few days after a new shipment arrived from Finland and N150/165 are in the new bottles with temperature-stable branding. The N160 was 2018 dated and in the older label design, but who knows, late 2019 may be new category.

Now someone needs to test them to see if they work.

Good News ! New powder guys .
Bad News ! Not available till May , if we're lucky ......?
And my birthday's still in August ........

Latest N160 is also in the new packaging with the "temp stability" label on, I cant really say that I experienced any drastic swings using N160 over the years before the new label

Unfortunately this stuff is unobtanium down under...far too costly an exercise for any of our distributors to bring Vihtavuori in.

When VV re-introduced the 8LB jugs of N-165 I jumped on it a couple of times. These are slightly shorter kernels than my older lots. Meters a lot better and doesn't hang up in the auto-trickler nearly like the older version.

Late to the party. I got some N555 on the way. H4350 has been superb for me. Hopefully the VV is at the very least the same or ideally better if f thats possible.
