new Model 70, Need a stock..Now what?

I just got the bug to shoot benchrest, I got a new Model 70 in 223 Win. I would like to make it into a gun for me for a while then hand it down to my wife eventually. I would like a new stock for it. Most of the ones I have seen that I like need to be inletted, I have modest skills and a lot of patience, Is this something I could do myself? I am a custom painter as well so if I screw the finish up a little, that does not matter. I plan on a killer paint job. I am going to go with a Jewell trigger and thats about it. I realize this gun may never be a competitor but I feel it is a great start none the less. Is there anyone who sells damaged or scratch and dent stocks because I plan on a total makeover anyway. These are a lot of questions but I am new to this and would like to hear some different opinions. Thanks in advance!

Here's a link to Boyd's web site. They are having problems with their site right now, but keep checking. They have a good slection of stocks and they also have a seconds box that has cosmetic flaws that they let go a good bit cheaper than their regular prices.

One more time......It's a 223 Winchester. I have decided to use this as a fun gun and build a ground-up gun like the one I see in the guns of the week. I would like it to shoot as good as it is going to look. This is the MOST informitive site I have found on the subject of precision shooting and I will build my rifle around what you all have seemed to find to work the best. I hope my gun will be graced on these pages someday.

I believe this is a conspiracy by the manufacturers kind'a like all my 6MMBR Norma brass says Lapua on it and I have a ton of Winchester manufactured .223 Remington brass that just says LC01.

You got that right.
