New Member Introductions

Welcome to the forum, from Texas! You can learn a LOT here! Like how to spend money on new tools you didn’t know you needed. ;) Just half kidding. Lots of good guys with great knowledge on this site.

I have been reloading since the early '70's (yeah, I'm old!). Loaded for years on single stage presses, and just recently transitioned to progressives with a Dillion XL 750 with the electric case feeder. Having to make some adjustments in my reloading process, as this thing really puts it together in a hurry. Got ahead of myself and primed some .223 brass BEFORE I cut it to length. Any recommendations on cutting primed brass to the proper length. I tried a couple of pieces using the redneck process of leveling my drill in the vise and attaching a fine sanding disc. Seemed to work, but not sure how square the neck is. Thoughts?

Don't have a case trimmer? (If not, buy one) I would just trim them. If you are worried about the live primer ,just load them & shoot them. Trim after they are fired. I definitely wouldn't recommend sanding them with a drill.
Welcome to the site.

Hi and welcome! Get yourself a Worlds finest trimmer. Easy and fast to use. I have three different models. A lot faster than my old hand cranker. Blow out your primed brass with an air nozzle after you trim and chamfer. Good luck!

Get a case trimmer. I have one just for my 223 brass made by Worlds Finest Trimmer. Trims a lot of brass in a hurry. I have 2, one for 204 and one for 223. Mine are the original. I could have just used the one and changed the cutters, but I am too lazy to spend time setting it up every time I change calibers. BTW I am 73 and have been reloading since he early 70's. Now a days arthritis keeps me from manually doing a lot of things.

I also have an RCBS electric trimmer. This one,RCBS Trim Pro-2 Power Case Trimmer Kit (midwayusa.com)

Appreciate all the replies! May try to carefully punch out the primers with a Lee decapper, as someone suggested, but given the current shortage of primers, I don't want to risk losing any. Will probably go with the advice of madmixerman and just shoot the damned things! None are excessively over the max of 1.760. Again, appreciate all the input! Live and never stop learning!!
