New Long Range Ground Hog Hammer

Since I sold my 6SLR,I have found that I have been wanting another varmint rifle in a 6MM caliber.I wanted it to be a custom and after a lot of searching,I think I found just what I was looking for.

Rifle specs:

Smithed by Mark King

BAT B 3LL action w/ 20 moa rail

Kreiger barrel 1.250 no taper 1-10 twist finished @30" chambered in 6MMAI

Shurley Bros stock

Jewell trigger

Rings will be either Nightforce or Mark4's

Scope will be a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 w/ MOA-2 reticle

Rifle weighs 20+ lbs. before scope and rings. Planning on shooting from a bench, not a walking varmint rifle

Plan on shooting the 87gr. Vmax's pushed by a stout load of N160.

Should be able to reach out there and touch em!!

Woohoo, that thing is sweet! My pops load is around 50gr.+ of n160 with the 87's and I think its pushing around 3450+ fps if I remember right. I have a recent post with his tearing up some crows and a hog. Post some groups when you get it going!

It is stunningly gorgeous! I'm sure it will serve you very well. Yes, post some long-range group photos if you get the chance.

Very nice and should be a real shooter too.

87gr. V-Max and N-160 is a good combination in my 6AI, smacks them pretty hard. Mine is a 10 twist also.

Good luck with your rifle and keep us posted on how it does.

WOW. I like it! Almost like you stole my "fantasy rifle" option checklist! i think you will like the AI. From a chuck perspective, it will be same as the SLR. Lights out, welcome to hog heaven...where woodchucks awaken every morning, eat, get swatted, but come back again the next day....

Things here have been touchy. Good early weeks, then rain rain rain. Now i am down and out with back pain and can't hunt!

Maybe you can take that rig on a roadtrip to CNY sometime.

Why did you unload the 6SLR? My Pierce 6SLR with 30" 8 twist 1.250 no taper Kreiger barrel, McMillan stock, Jewell trigger, Sightron 10-50 scope with 20 MOA rail tips the scale under 21 pounds and is scary accurate with 105 Amax's out to 1000 yards.

Thanks for the words guys. Will update when I get time for load development.Working 6 days a week right now.

Bill,I sold the SLR thinking I wouldn't get to use it a lot but I have since picked up a couple more farms that I think the new rifle will be put to use.

And snert,I do plan on coming up your way and the 6mmai will definitely be tagging along. ;D

potatoe, the rifle will be primarily be shot off a bench but I won't rule out using it off a bipod either. Just not sure how far I want to tote a rifle that weighs nearly 25 lbs.

As for brass,I picked up a nice supply of new Norma 7x57 brass. Now just gotta get a 6mm Fl die.
