I'm having a custom varmint rifle built in 6br. Need a recommendation on what rings to use. The rifle has Rem 700 SA action with Krieger heavy profile varmint barrel. Scope base is a Weaver picatinny rail w/ 20 MOA added. Scope is Leupold VX-3 8.5x25x50. Any one done one similar? I want the scope right down as close to the barrel as I can get it with minimal clearance. Looking for recommendation on brand and height of rings. I have a set of Leupold PRW "high" bases but not sure I want to use them here. Rifle recoil isn't an issue obviously. Thanks for advice in advance.

Once built, I'd mount it in the rings you have just to take a measurement if you want to be sure you are happy the first time around. Measure the height of the ring and add or subtract what you want it to do on the rifle if not just right. Then look at the specs for the rings you want from the manufacturer website and see what is closest to what you want. Rings are usually the easiest and quickest thing to get on a build so this is what I do if I am not sure. I've got more than a few sets of rings on the shelf that are not suitable for the original intent. I hate sending stuff back too...

After mounting aa custom-made Ken Farrel 20moa scope base on my Wichita WBR1375, I topped it off w/ some of Ken's original-style ( 1" ) scope rings.
Ken's work is first rate, and his turn time is great. Ken can make you whatever ring height your scope fit tests show you'll need. And of course, Ken makes 30mm rings ( skeletonized ).
