New Lighter Sendero FS II ?

My dad called me a few weeks ago and said, "I'm looking at this brown Sendero and it weighs 1/2 of what the old ones do." ::)

Of course I translated "1/2 "into "a little bit lighter" in my mind, but I blew it off. He's 107% colorblind and has this Texan belief that his eyeballs are ≥ than a CRF 1600 LRF, but I couldn't really dismiss this bigfoot sighting.

Today after giving him his 300 RUM back with a Timney I dropped in it, he whipped out this gray/brownish Sendero with black flutes unlike his bead blasted version, and it did indeed feel a lot lighter - I did not throw it on a scale... I know, I know.

It came in a weird plain box with a smallish Remington sticker on the end. I haven't bought a new rifle in some time - Did they start shipping Remingtons in plain squarish boxes?

The stock has a bit more palm swell and has a different surface texture than the standard HS I'm used to seeing on all my friends' Senderos or the one I had in my youth. It also had 2 front studs unlike my father's Sendero. I can't recall the setup I had or those of my friends' at the moment. We were checking that out since I had installed a Seekins Bipod rail on my brother's XCR LR Tactical 300 Win Mag with the Badger TRAMP. The 40x Trigger in this XCR tactical, or as it is rumored, is about 69x nice than the usual suspect.

I haven't seen a similar gun on any websites so far.

OK. Done rambling.

Anyone have links, info, timing on the change if there's been any?

YEA, It still had the X-BARF PRO-fane Random Number Generator Firing Pin Release from the factory. :'(

Could you post a pic as remington is using bell and carlson stocks right now.I dont know for sure if they completely dropped hs precision but alot seem to have B&C stocks these days.

Romulus, I enjoyed your story about your dad. ;D

As to the "new" Remington Sendero SF II, I don't think it's much lighter than the original (fluted) version. Maybe 1/4 lb, but I don't have the specs for the original. I do recall that the original VSSF (i.e. short action, not the LA of the Sendero) tipped the scales at 8 and 7/8 lbs. (I have two of them!)

Here's the specs on the Sendero SF II, direct from Remington's website: http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire/model-700/model-700-sendero-sf-ii.aspx
