New League at Club - Opinions Pls

If this should go into "Competition" let me know.

Would appreciate opinions on cartridge for a new league at our club.

I am presently thinking 223 with high BC bullets or a 30BR.

100 yards score
Shoot prone from bipod
Tactical and varmit stocked rifles
22-30 cal
20X max scope
No jackets
No wind flags

This a range surrounded by trees, so we don't get big wind, but it is always swirling. Seldom see two flag point the same direction. So do I go for big holes and accept for bullet movement from the wind, or high BC?

I think this will be a big hit at our club.

Thanks,

Mark

30BR. BC is totally irrelevant at 100 and 200. The big hole makes all the difference in the world. Back when I just wanted to shoot tens there were a lot of conditions I would just ignore, now that I am trying to shoot X's I don't ignore any condition change.

What target are they going to use? How many record rounds? What about sighters?

rayjay,

thanks for helping.

first run was today.

Unlimited sighters
20 for score
1/2" 10 ring, i think x was 1/4
single shot

almost all 223's, couple of 308s.

Are there 20 bulls ??? In score BR we shoot 5 bulls per target, 5 targets make up a yardage. Minimum of 30 mins between targets.

What score won this first event?

Our Club is shooting short range F-Class. Take a look at the rules and then modify to fit your desires. We started out at 100 and 200 yards, and now have changed to 200 and 300 yards. We shoot the NRA 100 yard Small Bore target and at the 300 yard line we are changing the scoring rings to one size larger,ie. the 10 ring is scored as a x, the 9 ring as a 10, etc). The target is very challenging, easily obtained, and it is fun,we are shooting the target with a orange center rather than black as it is MUCH easier to see the bullet holes). We shoot 20 shots at 200 and 20 shots at 300 yards. For iron sight and black powder cartridge shooters, we shoot regulation reduced NRA targets at both ranges.

Our Club has 600 yards available now, but without pits, you cannot see the bullet strikes and cannot adjust. Hopefully we will ahve pits before too much longer and then we will go to a 600 yard NRA F-Class format exclusively.
