New Lathe Setup

Finally got my new lathe yesterday. It’s an Eisen 12x36 gunsmithing model made in Taiwan. Spent time cleaning the yellow grease off everything and rubbing it down with synthetic motor oil lightly. Leveled the base with 18” between the backwall and lathe. Tried to install a Bostar bxa post, but it had different threads, so I have a new project. Also, going to make a spider chuck for the back side. What am I missing guys? What do I need to do to ensure proper functionality?

Sine bar to indicate tail stock in. Adam

Have you filled it with the proper oil.
Head stock, carage.
Any oil ports

It' a good idea to empty the oil after a couple of days and refill with clean, and good to take headstock cover off and make sure no chips have been left behind.
I have the same lathe and very happy with it enjoy

Oiled all the ports but did not drain the old oil. I still need to wire up the back. How did you do that? No instructions, so I’m guessing black and white on the bottom left posts of the main block and green to the ground?

Congrats on the new lathe. You may ought to get an electrician over to take a look at it. You need to know what voltage its set up for- i cant imagine that its not set up to run on 3 phase and if the contactor coils are a different voltage youll burn all that up as soon as you turn it on.

I didn't wire this one
It was already wired for 120
Mine is the same lathe just older and by wilton20171215_165834.jpg 20171215_165402.jpg 20171215_165805.jpg maybe some pics would help although I'm sure it's best if you get someone to do it that knows what he's doing

Dusty, hire someone? Come now it’s definitely 220 single phase.

Should say right on the contactor what the pull in voltage of the coil is.

Thats exactly correct. On the coil itself in the contactor body. Most that i see wired to the wrong voltage gets a drum switch in the end. 2 or 3 different voltages on the control power transformer and lack of instructions causes instant smoke release sometimes. Glad this one was easy- enco machines are usually an easter egg hunt to find out where theyre gonna try to get you.
