New Lapua Brass

Entering a new level of reloading. What are your steps for prepping new Lapua brass for 6.5x284 including Neck turning.

Run an expander mandrel in the necks to make sure they are perfectly round. Run them thru the bushing of choice for neck tension and load em up.

I usually wait till I have at least one cycle on them and then i trim and chamfer at the same time.

The last new Lapua I used had some burrs. Seating was not as smooth as I liked.

Yep, forgot about that. It is needed.

Honestly, for the vast majority of us, just chamfering and deburring the mouth, and running a mandrel into the neck for proper neck tension is all you need to start out. They are remarkably consistent, and have more than enough neck tension from the factory.

Clean up flash holes, uniform neck diameter, chamfer, then shoot to fire form.

unless you have a tight chamber, no need to turn the necks.
