New kid here O_o

Hey guys, i want to introduce myself. I have been watching and reading posts here for a couple years now. Finally decided to join. I bought my first project rifle almost a year ago and just now finished building/upgrading her. I figured i would lean on yall for any advice i might need in the load building and LR shooting area.

Remington 700 .270 win.
Bell & Carlson full adjustable tactical stock
Harris bipod
Shilen 26" 1:10 heavy barrel
Osprey Global 8-32x56mm
Timney trigger

I dont got a whole lot a time with work and social stuff but my personal goal is to shoot 1000 yards. I figure if i can master that then i can move on to higher aspirations.
Anywho..heres my baby. Maybe help me come up with a name for her? 20190305_173044_1_50_1_40.jpg

Welcom aboard.
How about the begining......
Of the never ending story.
As it is your 1st.

Hey! Welcome to the forum! Nice set up! How about Eve? The first woman.
I’ll save you a ton of money. You only need four things for that gun! (In the future)
A Jewel trigger, or maybe a Bix & Andy Tac sport.
A Sightron III 10-50 (best bang for the buck, in my opinion and all the scope you’ll ever need)
When you burn out that barrel, try a Kreiger or Lederer.
Bedding! Bed that baby!
That’s it! Don’t ever look at another gun! It starts you down the road to poverty!
Now let’s talk reloading......;)

Well first off Welcome to the fold. A pretty good bunch of people here, but watch out when you ask for help, they will aid you in lowering your wallet content..
As for a name, how about "Sweet Heart" for this one ?

Already got her bedded. Working up a suitible load is my next step. I've got two loads in mind...
Either a 130gr sierra sbt on top of some h4831sc w/ nosler brass and a fed match primer.
Or a 150gr hornady interbond on top of imr4320 w/ nosler brass and a fed match primer.
Any thoughts?

Youre severely limited in good 270 bullets and brass both as you may have noticed. Youll have to pick out some good brass of what you have there and i figure some sort of sierra bullet will be your best chance. Get some good FL bushing dies to start with. I suggest whidden. Then youll need a real good rest setup to even get started good and get a baseline of where youre at.

You're only about 40 miles from Tullahoma where we shoot 600 and 1,000 yards. Check out midsouthmarksmen.com for the schedule and more details. The next match listed is April 21st, 1,000 yards. There is also a 600 yard match scheduled for April 20th that is not listed. Get on the email list and go ahead and come to a match. Your setup is not ideal, but you'll learn a lot and your fellow competitors will be very glad to help a new shooter. PM me if I can help.

Try the 145gn Hornady ELDX for long range. IMR-4350 has yielded excellent results in every 30-06 sized case I've tried it in and many more. You'll want to pick bullets with high BC numbers. I think the ELDX is about the highest in the 277 caliber.

Nice looking rifle. No need to change anything there until you determine that it has become the real limitation. You should have no problems getting to 1000 as long as your target is reasonably sized (12 inches or more).

double check your sanity, I just wanted to hit a milk jug at 1k, and even though you can't see me, look at me nowo_O. this is a deep hole and a dangerous website, if you enjoy shooting and competition:cool:, that is:p. truly, this is a great sport with some of the best people you will ever meet, or possibly never meet:eek:, whichever the case may be. two ears and one mouth, there is a reason for that;). most of all, enjoy what you do, whatever that is:). oh yeah, take advice from "guffey" carefully, unique one that is:D. bryant
