New guy needs help!

I am new to the bench rest shooting scene and am having some great initial results- but one thing is somewhat of a problem. I am shooting off a tripod with a sandbag up front and sandbags at the rear. My issue is that my elbow takes a terrific pounding, bruising) even though I rest it on a sandbag on the shooting bench. This only happens with my 7mm Rem Mag- my .223s are fine. Is there a technique on equipment I can use to eliminate this? Thanks for any help.

Edgewood makes elbow pads. Check this site:
Edgewood
I think they are also sold at Brunos Shooter Supply and Sinclair. All the Edgewood products are top quality.

I place a plastic sheet under my right elbow when shooting benchrest with larger calibers. Elbow slides back under recoil. Very low tech but it works for me.

My 'fix' for this looks kinda' stupid, but it works. I cut the toe off a heavy insulated hunting sock and had my wife whip the edges so it doesn't tatter. I slip it on my arm so that the heel of the sock hits your elbow area when shooting and it's just slippery anough to let it slide on the bench. Been using the same sock for 3 years now. I usually only use it when shooting my heavy calibers, but it stays in my range bag.
