new gun

Hello to all. I am new to the 6br but I'm going to buy my first one tomorrow. Its a savage model 12 long range precision varminter in 6br with a 1-8 barrel. What I need help on is what would a good choice in bullet weights and powder. I have not bought bullets yet but I have Varget powder and CCI primers. I will be shooting groundhogs with this gun out to about 600 yards maybe a little more if I'm lucky. Any hand loading info would be appericated. I do hand load now for my 40X 22-250. Thanks for any help.:)

I would try the 105grn A-Max. It has excellent BC and will expand very well, for a VLD type bullet. My friend uses a Savage 6BR with 1-8 twist barrel and he is using the following load with excellent success;

1. 30.3grns Varget
2. CCI 450 Primer
3. 105grn A-Max
4. Lapua Brass
5. COAL is 2.330
6. The velocity out of his rifle is right at 2890fps.

This is a very accurate load out of his rifle. He is shooting .3 shot groups at 100 yards.

No problem. He also tried the 105grn Lapua's. They were very accurate too. However, for varminting at long range, the 105grn A-Max is the way to go. I am using the 105grn A-Max out of my 6BR and it absolutely loves them. Let me know if you need any more info.
