new gun ? 700rem or savage

i have always built on 40x or 700 actions trued, custom bbl, etc. - never dissapointed -br long time ago, some target, pd, big game, now, no competition just like accurate rifles

With the custom 600 7-08 stolen (left by UPS) outside, considering a new build - I see the Sav has a longer magazine opening, giving a advantage of seating length vs Rem 700

reading a lot of you using the Savage action - i have a ? for those who have used Rem and Sav, with the bbl cost simular, stock, trigger work simular, which is easier to true, make shoot and stay shooting or even more accurate?

The Sav seems less expensive tostart, is this the only advantage, do you find the mag length helpful, I dont see my self using a switch bbl.

Thanks for your info

Bob

Seems to me that it's a lot easier to work with a 700....
I don't use a magazine, so can't help there....

I love the remingtons as they are a higher quality design especially in the trigger dept. Now with all the savage aftermarket stuff available,it is a clear choice to use a savage system as you can do most of the work yourself. They dont need to be timed and trued to shoot accurately. It doesnt hurt ,but they will perform really good the way they are with a high quality prechambered barrel and an aftermarket trigger and bedding job. I am now a convert for home builds using svage. I will still be involved with remingtons as they are a real strong ,safe action. I would go with the savage and spend the money for a really fine barrel such as a shilen, pacnor, lilja, mcgowen, criterion, brux or any other brand with the exception of a couple. I hope this helps. If you have additional questions ,feel free to pm me with your questions.

Good advice!

I'm a Savage fan and if you want the best of both worlds and avoid a barrel that might look a little on the skimpy side, you still have the option of fitting a barrel Remington style and do without the barrel nut. I had 2 M110's built this way and they were very accurate.
