new front rest, or what you do when its too hot to shoot

it has been too hot to shoot here in east texas, so i retreated to my air conditioned shop and built this. i made it from scrape that i had laying around in the shop. it is hand made in that i used no cnc tools to make it. i did use a bridgeport and manual lathe to machine it. i made all the parts except for the o rings cap screws and the little level that i got at home depot. it will adjust from about 5 inches up to about 9inches. it is all aluminum and the back leg was heliarced to the main body. it has course height adjustments every .375 inches and a 14 tpi wheel adjustment. all the sliding fits i tried to hold to .0015 so that there would no shake even if left unlocked. i haven t used it yet, but once i do and am satisfied with how it works i will paint it. it took me about 30 hours to make it, and i copied a lot of ideas off of the 6 br web sites. i will probably build another as i learned a lot on this one and won t make the same errors. i could have built it on cnc in much less time, but then it would have become just another job. total cost about 6.00 not counting the edgewood bag.

I'm impressed, the first ones always take longer to build. Once you get past that curve of mistakes and how to do this and that better then they become a work of art.

Henry, that is a work of art! I never had the skill to machine anything so I made a career out of measuring stuff. I would have been proud to program and measure that rest on a CMM! Outstanding.

Well done! I wish you weren't so far away. I have a mill and lathe and would love for someone to mentor me on machining. I don't think I have the skills to pull off what you did.

$6 I would invest $6 for this! Pretty sweet, what colors are you thinking cause I bet most people like it the way it is! I personally would think a titanium look would be cool.

You've done a nice job on that rest. I'm thinkin a coaxial rest would be much easier to make and possibly a profitable venture. The leg bolt locks are well done and the clean look is right on.

wow great work! Now too hot to shoot? I did not know that was possible same with too cold. I thought the rule was you do not shoot as much?

Any way in this that is very nice.

Edit
Are you going to finish the metal in any way?
