new favorite 6.5x47 load

Lapua brass of course 1.840
CCI 450 primers
39 grs RL15
123 Scenars at 2.720 OAL .020 jump

shot today at 800 yards and is extremely accurate shooting groups and pinpoint precise also waring 4 inch spinner out shot after shot,,

I really wanted to shoot the big BC number 140 Hybirds but the Scenars just shoot much more consistent in this 8 twist Bartlien barrel,,it is very close to being a 1/4 minute load even at 800 yards,,way less than 1/2,,

Good to hear; you have given me new hope. I have yet to get my 6.5x47 to shoot to my liking. At best I can get 3 shots out of five in a 0.10" group at 100 yards and then have two flyers opening it up to 0.75". I have been using H4350 and RL17 (which is what I have) and think I need to try Varget and/or RL15 before giving up. Mine does like the 123's the best though and like you, I'll stick with them if they would shoot that good.

Let me know if you want to trade rifles :)

I have reached a similar conclusion, but my load is 38 gr. Varget, 123 Amax, Cci450. I have shot 3 shots a little over a .5 inches at 300 yards. That 6.5x47 was made to shoot the 123's.

i threw together some 120 AMAXs that i had laying around and 39.3 gr of RL15 and CCI450s
the first three shots came in at .132 the next was .114. too bad i shot all the 120s and now i have to shoot 123s.... why does life have to be so hard... ha!

i love the 6.5x47

What length barrel are you shooting with?

I'm building a 6.5x47 with an 18.5" barrel. Hoping 1 of these 3 will work well. 123 scenar, 123 amax and 130 vld hunting using Varget/H4350 powder.

I just got my backup tactical rifle up and going. Pierce action, Manners T4A stock, Brux MTU 6.5 1:8 tw 28" finish, and TBAC 30P-1 suppressor. Recoil is between a .22LR and .223. I settled on 41.1 gr of h4350 with 140 hybrids .045 off the lands. This is .6 gr more than my 30" barrel Fclass load. Groups so far have been great off the bipod. 100 yards .210 for 5 shots. 5 shots at 400 yards 1.00 inches. 3 shots at 1170 yards shot 3.8 inches. It was pretty windy at 1170 so I couldn't get 5 shots off before the wind would switch big time, no wind flags. I never could figure out why guys have problems with 140s. They've shot lights out in both my 6.5x47 barrels.

I'm with you Ryan, I have always shot 139 gr. Scenars out of my "47" and never had issues.

I am having problems like FeMan. Can't get my 6.5x47L to shoot. Bat DS ST1000F stock Benchmark 8 twist barrel. Have tried RL17 and H4350. 123,129,130,139 & 140's no luck
3/4 to 1" five shot groups at 100. At 600 the best has been a high 5" 10 shot group.
Have pulled the barrel off and put on a Dasher barrel that came with it. I have a couple of friends that have Bat actions. Going to let them try it to see if it was my set up or the barrel. I did go to the range one time and it shot one 5 shoot group in one hole and one 3 shot in one hole. Went out the next week, same ammo, went back to 3/4 - 1" groups. I have ordered a Bartlien barrel to try again.

Jeff,
Was it a used gun when you bought it? If so how many rounds does the 6.5 barrel have through it? What kind of rest are you using? Also Im not trying to state the obvious but are all the screws tight? If everythings tight and the barrel doesn't have a ton of rounds through it I would say the barrel is a turd. Just based off you trying all those bullets and it not shooting right. The ones Ive chambered have shot 40.5-41.1 gr of h4350 with a 140 hybrid .030-.050 off the lands lights out, ie 1/4 moa or better. There is a little bit of a powder crunch but there is no pressure signs. One of my customers took his lightweight #5 contour 6.5 I built him to a groundhog match and beat the benchrest guns at 300 yds. The group was half the size of a dime he said. The benchrest gun guys couldn't believe they got beat with a light weight hunting rifle thrown on some sandbags, lol.

When I did a ladder comparison of RL15 vs PowerPro2000MR, I found the latter had wider nodes and the overall vertical sensitivity to charge was much less. Shooting at 200yd, the average vertical POI moved 30mm/grain of RL15 vs 13mm/grain for 2000MR. Also, I was able to achieve higher velocities with no pressure problems, much like the reported behavior for the 308.

RPIERCE,

Barrel was brand new. I have less than 300 rounds down the tube. Front rest is a JJ. Everything was tight.
Changed stocks and scope once.
I want to give a tip of the hat to Benchmark barrels. Even thou my 6.5x47L isn't shooting. I ordered a 6mm barrel from them today. After placing my order I told the guy on the phone about my problems. I asked him if they would do anything, He said bring it back ! I am still going to try it on another gun before I do that. It put a smile on my face for great service.

I tried all the viable combinations with H4350 (various powder weights, bullets, and seating depth) and never got my 6.5X47L to shoot decent. Recently I switched to RL 15 (36.4g) and VLD's target 130g (5000th in the lands) and I got great results on my 1000 yards outing.
