New farm gun

Bought a Tikka T1X 22 to use at the farm for skunks, coons and the like.
Took it out of the stock and lightened the trigger to just under 2 lbs and marbelized the stock. Put it back together had 4-16 scope not being used, mounted it and went to the range. Bore sighted it and then loaded 9 shots. The bottom target is the 1st 9 shots and top is the next 6 rounds, shooting CCI SV at 25 yds. A bit on the cold side so called it good for the day. Think it will be a good gun for the farm, and the stock looks better than the blah blah black.tikka.jpg tikka target.jpg

Like the marbelized stock - does look better than plain ole black! I had a case of the hots for one of these rifles when they were first announced, but had a hard time finding one at any of the wholesale distributors I have accounts with. Wound up buying several CZ457s instead, and have been very happy with all but the first one, which had a bbl with lousy accuracy. Re-barreled it with a Shilen blank, and now all three of the 457s I have shoot at least as good as they look. But I still don't recall seeing a negative post from anyone who bought one of these Tikkas - problems with extraction or ejection yes - but not one single report of sub-standard accuracy. Looks like yours will also be a good shooter...

I like it ,stock looks great . Can you share your process please ? I have a T1X also and the stock appearance is the only thing I am not happy with .

go to e-bay or google Krylon Marbelizing spray. I have used the black on green and grey on black several times. better than the solid colors on most stocks. Practice on an old stock or a piece of wood. I use acetone to clean the stock and tape of the checkering,

Thanks for info , I am going to give it a try . I have used the Fusion paints with success, looking forward to a marbled finish.

Very nice!
We’re you able to lighten the trigger with just the adjustment screw, and is this as low as it would go? Thanks!

I’ve used the krylon a few times with good results. I usually add a couple coats of matte clear on top of the marbleizing.

I just ordered from this place to try on a flat black HS Precision stock. HS wanted $150 plus shipping to paint it for me. upload_2020-1-18_15-5-30.png

Nice looking setup. It appears that you can shoot it well also. Should serve you well on the farm.

I've been told that skunks must be shot in the head so they'll die before they can spray, is that true?

nice job! get yourself some CCI Velocitors for duty pills, std velocity lead are a bit weak for DRT, save them for target.
