New F-class gun

So after ordering parts back in October last year my new F-class rifle is done.

Specs:
Eliso RTS chassis
Pierce TG action
Jewel Trigger
Barrel #1: 30 inch Bartlien .284 (throated for berger 180 Hybrid)
Barrel #2: 30 inch Brux 6.5x47 lapua (throated for berger 130 vld)
Nightforce 12x42x56 NXS

Gun weight: 19 pounds/w6.5 barrel. I dont' have the weight with the .284 barrel.

Action was glued and recoil lug was not used.
Gun was built by Accurate Ordnance. I will post some more pic's when I get to the range this weekend.

Great looking rifle KT! I think you'll have a lot of fun and lots of great scores with it. I've glued all of mine in also, same as you, no recoil lug. It makes life a lot simpler (nothing to come loose) and you end up with a super rigid action. Nice work!

Very nice looking rifle! I've thought about this for a while. What contour barrels did you go with? I want to build mine for F T/R but was concerned about weight. Any suggestions on barrel contours to make weight? Thanks!

John

OK...I gotta ask. I am a LR benchrest guy...who shoots some f class. I just bring my 1K light guns and shoot them. From what I see, the TOP local F-class guys all have guns that look just like mine..except for the adjustable cheek and sholder pieces.

Is there an advantage to a "tube gun" as opposed to a regular looking F class gun? Or is it just the (WAY) cool factor?

Just gotta know why you went with a repeater action when F-Class is Slow Fire/Single Load?

Are you also shooting XTC or was it "incase" to help with the sale if the need came?

Sweet stick BTW...........

1 word KT BEAUTIFUL ;D You built a super rifle with some nice parts. Down the road a ways i would like to build 1 on the same chassis as what you built yours on. Hope you post some results on how it shoots when you get a chance. Good luck and enjoy your new toy.

I went with some heavier contour's because I'm shooting F-open and I have a 22 pound limit.

The .284 is a 1.25 to 1inch
The 6.5 is MTU contour.

I think you could go with a MTU contour or a Med or Heavy Palma. But you would proably have to use the single shot version of the CSS chassis. Just to cut a bit of weight.

The 6.5 barrel screwed on and the NXS scope but without the magazine weight was 17.4. Then again the NXS is very heavy as far as scopes go.

Also Gary makes a lightweight Hunter version, weight is 3 pounds!

German would probably have a better Ideal on this. He has several of these chassis.

KT,

SsssaaaaSchweet rig, very nice. Tube stock envy setting in.... ;D

How does the 3" rest adapter working out? I know German had needed to do some retrofitting for his bipod mounts. Inquiring minds would like to know.

Thanks for all the coments guys. I will try and answer a few questions!

I got the .284 barrel on. I will weigh the gun tonight and let you know what the weight is exactly

4xforfun,

I will try and answer your question the best as possible:

1. Some of it is personal preference, I'm a military guy so I'm very familiar/comfortable with the AR style.

2. I think (my opinion) the CSS tube gun is a better design. The chassis completely surrounds the action therefore making the action stronger.

3. When you ditch the recoil lug, then bolt and glue the action into the chassis you make it even stronger.

4. The glue act's as a harmonic dampner. It will or should absorb any kind of bad harmonics the barrel has.

5. It's about the most ajustable stock that you can buy.

Taildrag15x,

I went with the repeater for a couple of reasons:

1. I figured that if the action was completely enclosed in the chassis that would provide the extra strength that the single action already has.

2. Yes maybe an XTC or I have several buddies that shoot Tactical matches. Not sure about the TAC matches but you never know. Or even some varmit hunting. That is the nice thing about this set up. I just send a barrel down to AO and they chamber it and I have another option for the gun.

3. The "who knows factor"! LOL I figured I would leave every possibility open.

Rod,
The 3 inch adaptor works great. I run a Farley rest with an edgewood bag and it fit's in there perfect.

Didn't even think about Tacticle Matches....there are none here in my part of the US.....

It's a great looking rig, one of the F-Open guys sports this one in Forrest Green at Peru:

I liked being behind it, felt natual, and shoots really well, think he set at least 1 National Record with it.

The WAY cool factor has weight but the real reason is; if the range gets overrun with enemy combatants, only the guy with the tube gun gets to clear the field. Didn't you know that? :D

Nice rig!

John, as to weight, all three of mine are long actions on the R1 stock. With a 30" Heavy Palma and a Rempel bipod (3 lb. 5 oz.) I can make weight (8.25 kg.) with a Leupold scope and rings, but not with a Nightforce. A medium Palma contour would get it closer, but the combination of a Nightforce and a Rempel bipod is just too heavy for the tubegun to reasonably make 8.25 kg. I think that with Gary's new bipod (1 lb. 10 oz.) you won't have any trouble making weight with a Nightforce and a heavy Palma. That's probably the best way to go for F-TR.

New CSS Bipod below.

German and KT,
Thank you for your responses. I think my mind is made up! If I can get the War Dept(wife) to clear the funds, I'll be on my way!

John

The weight of the gun, with the .284 barrel is 19.2 pounds.

Longshooter,
Just call Gary and get one coming. Your going to have a few months of wait time. So you should order it now.

Got to the range this weekend.

I found that the gun has a very small sweet spot for powder charge. (About .3tenths of a grain)

Shot everything at 100 yards. I will try and get some pic's up today.

Running Win Brass (neck turned) loaded to .314 neck dia
Berger 180 hybrid
4831SC
Getting 2820fps
