New Experience at the Range Today

I was shooting for a longtime today trying to identify a problem which is- as usual-
most likely me. A guy came in next to me and asked about which ammo I used.
He said he had the CZ 457 Varmint Precision Chassis MTR. I told him I had never
seen that gun in the flesh and was excited he had one.

BTW the CZ USA website quotes the MSRP at $2,399. Manners model is the same price.
He later said he had bought it new about 3 years ago for $900. Could that be
right?

Anyway he was shooting some marginal ammo and claimed he bought it for
gopher shooting at 200 yards.
I asked if I could shoot 5 rounds of my Midas+ and he agreed.
Three of the 5 shots were nearly the same hole with two a bit under.
That gun can shoot!!

But it does look a bit homely.

Is the Manners about the same?

The manners' price will be about the same depending where you can find one. It's a very different stock. Here's a link to see about the Manners VPT.

Theirs two different manners stocks. One completely adjustable one not. I bought one straight from manners 3-4 years ago because I wanted a different finish. 20% off and it was still 1000 bucks. Go price a good chassis ( sticker shock). Cz says all their 457 guns are the same except for obviously (barrel, stock) and the mtr chamber. You pay for extra groceries. Now that I'm getting on a rant. But anyways. Getting pretty tough to spend 2 grand on a 22 then $15-- to sky's the limit on ammo. Great when you a kid and just want to shoot some pop cans. Us old parts look to get alittle out of our guns. Usually. Still alot of fun tearing up pop cans

tariffs have nothing to do with the price. It is the success of 22rf becoming very popular. More now then ever. Look at the price of the ammo. The import of the good European ammo has got to a point most can't afford to shoot it much as before. And this was before any tariffs have been added in.
22LR match ammo availability and cost was just as whacked out 3 years ago.

You would think a US ammo company or custom bullet manufacturer would be able to produce 22 ammo as good or better than a European company. At $0.50 for a 22 lr cartridge there has to be a heck of a profit margin. It wasn't very long ago that Lapua had the competition rifle brass market all to themselves. Now there's US brass as good or better than Lapua.

ask Federal to bring back the good stuff. Can't be more expensive than the Euro brands.
