New DPMS LR 308 need advice please

Hey guys I bought this DPMS lr .308 and I thought I was going to use it for match but don't think so. Going with a savage F for f class open.
Anyhow i paid 1500 for the 308 and I am very new to this style of firearm. I do not think it is new for some reason...? In the magazine i can't find a 308 that looks like mine.
A2 stock, low pro upper with rear detachable sight.Fore grip is all aluminum with 4 integral picatinny rails

I really want to mount a decent vari power tactical scope for hunting deer ans coyote. But the front site is in the way is it not? What to do there?
I need quick acquisition of targets and at times a slow 200 yard shot; so a bit of power needed.maybe 3 to 9 power
Need some help here please, links, advise, opinions, lay it on me.

Mount a scope up and see if the front sight is even visible in the scope! Depending on the power of your scope, you may not have an issue.

Somebody makes a front gas block for AR15s that has the front sight detachable. Might be Armalite. Perhaps they have one for their AR10. It is worth a shot.

Flat top upper? you can buy a riser mount and use higher rings to cure the problem. They are advertised in shotgun news.
I hope this helps.

I bet you won't even notice the front sight in the scope image unless you look for it, and I doubt that it will detract from the scope performance or retical appearance in any way -- unless you obsess about it. :)

As to scope rings, unlike with a typical bolt action rifle, wherein you usually want the minimum scope clearance above the barrel), you need to ensure you have tall enough rings to provide comfortable cheek weld. The buttstock of AR type rifles usually is such that lower rings force you to uncomfortably mash your face onto the stock, so some extra height in the rings is recommended. The Burris XTR in "extra high", which means 1" from base top to ring hole bottom, plus 15mm to centerline, might work well for this setup, and they're not real expensive, and they are very stout.

On the DPMS site they have a "build this rifle" on most of the standard configurations they offer. This lets you customize your rifle ordered from them to a certain degree. This is a possible reason that you may not see one exactly like yours in the ads or on their site. Whom ever ordered the rifle from DPMS may have used this to get the gun the way it is or they may have put on extras or made changes after they got the gun. If so it could still be new but just be someones "custom job" or project.

You can remove the front sight on all AR based guns and replace it with a gas block if you want. ,yes I have a DPMS 308).

However, as other said, if you are using a 4x plus power scope you may not even be able to see the front sight through the scope.

The DPMS upper has a 'flat top' that is already raised by 3/8" or 1/2" over what a normal flat top would be and therefore you don't need 'ultra high' rings. I would try some medium rings and see how the eye position is off that A2 stock. When you go too high with the scope you have to add something to the stock to raise your cheek up and when you do that.. you have to make sure you can still pull charging handle with out hitting the stock.

Hey guys. Thanks for the help and info. I got a scope and red dot sight on my .308 with no problems and it is extremely accurate! On my .308 I cannot remove the front sight unless I change the whole upper. But their is no need to that because as you guys have said I cannot even notice the front sight.
Great beautiful shooting firearm! I likey : )
