New Dasher Brass out of AICS Mags w/ Primal Rights Follower

Got a tip from FatBoy on the forum here about the Primal Rights follower kit for the AICS magazines to magazine feed Dasher (BR and BRX) cartridges flawlessly.

Here's a video I made up on them - - finally a practical and easy solution that feeds the Dasher out a popular magazine flawlessly - - check it out.

This could be big for shooting disciplines like PRS, Long Range Tactical, etc.

Here's the video link:

Enjoy! Robert :)

Robert,

Have you gotten your kits yet? If so, have you had a chance to try them?

Yes I have the kits, and the video was made by me with the kits I purchased after receiving your recommendation.

Great stuff - - great recommendation!

For some reason I do not see a link to the video above, so here it is again below:

I have several of the conversion kits; they work well with 6BR, 22BR, and 6 Dasher. I've tried them in both R700 style actions as well as my Accuracy International AE Mk3.

The kits are very similar to the AICS magazine mods other users have made for themselves for several years now; before Travis and Greg released their conversion kit I converted several 5 and 10 round AICS magazines after seeing what others had done by making a polyethylene spacer for the rear and a modified Magpul 5.56 Anti-Tilt follower in combination with modified pistol magazine springs.

The kit works just as well (if not a little better) with zero fab work-- just buy it and drop it in. Have to give them credit for the 3D printed spacer and follower (I *really* need to get a 3D printer for this kind of stuff.) The flat folded follower spring included in their conversion is also much nicer than the modded pistol mag coil springs that I used on my homebrew conversions.

With off the shelf Dasher brass available from Shiraz and this easy drop-in magazine conversion kit for arguably the most popular bolt action detachable mag format out there the popularity of the Dasher should continue to grow.

I also *really* want to get my Accuracy International AE back from the gunsmith who's bushing the bolt and spinning up a 6 Norma Dasher barrel for it...

I shoot a dasher and 6 br with the stock AICS mags without issues. I'll stick with them and save $45.

Your situation is likely the exception rather than the rule. I am happy it has worked out well for you but I feel you should count yourself lucky on that one. I never had reliability feeding 6BR, Dasher or BRX out of AICS mags until I purchased the Primal Rights kits, even out of different rifles.

It looks like the shorter followers and the spacers in the Primal Rights kit were made with a 3D printer - - but they work great. Since using the Primal Rights spacers and followers in the AICS magazines I have never had a single miss-feed with the Dasher cartridges (and I mean not one).

Plus one

I have witnessed Dasher's being ran in PRS matches with no kit, straight out of the AI mag , running like butter. Ten, twelve, or better strings of fast fire with no burps.. It is a doable thing. I guess they are just lucky....

Really all you guys have trouble with feeding from the aics mag? Hmmm mine truly do feed fine.

I think your lucky. I know a lot of guys who have had problems. I had enough problems that I started using Sako 75s, their magazines feed without issue. I always thought if someone made a kit they would sell a bunch of them. There's a ton of threads on modifying mags to fix the problem, it nice to see someone address it.

I think there must be some confusion. There are no AICS magazines I know of that hold twelve or more rounds of a 6BR, a BRX or a Dasher. As far as I know the 10 round 308 magazines are the largest of the AICS magazines (and it's typically hard to squeeze the tenth round in those AICS magazines sometimes).

Without the spacer moving the stack forward, I had endless nose dive problems.

There are +2 and +4 baseplates for the AICS mags. For the guys that run aics with no problem I don't see why they couldn't run the extended baseplates. For everyone else who wants excellent reliability, these kits will give you the 10 rounds no problem.

Masterpiece Arms make 4 round extenders for the AI mag and the Accurate mag. The Accurate mags will hold 11-12 without extender depending on cartridge, 12 if a 6 Creedmoor.

I have my doubts whether the Primal Rights kit would work with the extender, especially since the rear spacer bar on the Primal Rights kit would need to be longer.

I am still baffled on how people have been reliably running the BR, BRX and Dasher out of non-modified AICS magazines. For years I tinkered with the BRX and Dasher in AICS magazines in different AICS magazines and rifles and never had good reliability, and when I spoke with the owner of the company who made repeater tube gun kits (that take AICS magazines) he said they never had feeding reliability out of factory AICS magazines with the BR, BRX and Dasher, but that some guys had custom made follower and spacer set ups with a spacer in the rear of the magazine to push the ammo stack forward and that worked well. There has to be more to that story of the guys shooting them in the PRS matches.

Wonder how many of these guys are running CRF actions? That takes almost all the feeding and extraction/ejection issues out of the equation.

It wont work with the mag extender. I asked primal rights about it and I believe he said if there was demand they'd come up with a solution. My friend suggested tapping an allen screw into the bottom of the spacer to push the spacer up.

I have 4200rds Dasher rounds through two older Bighorn actions, ZERO problems. Using 10rd AICS mags or AW mags with a spacer in the back. A fellow Dasher shooter bought a couple of the Primal Rights kits. I tried them, they do feed slightly better. The advantage I see to the Primal Rights kits, less distance to travel for the round with that spacer in the back.... Less chance of a short stroke, which on occasion I do on a fast steel match stage. I'll order a couple of the kits soon.

Good friend has a Defiance action/AW cut Dasher, feeds like a fat chick at a all you can eat buffet!
