New CZ455 Varmint - Tacticool

I am new to this forum and also new to 22 rimfire BR. I just purchased a CZ 455 Tacticool in 22 LR with the Boyd tactical stock. So far I like it a lot. I shot it for first time today and was really impressed. I'm trying to find what brand 22LR it likes, so far the ELEY Scout is working great, also had some old S&W Match 22LR and it loved them. They are just about impossible to find anymore. Will post some picks when I get it shooting good.
So, I started working on doing some bedding and accuracy work on it and when I pulled the action I was surprised to find no front lug on the action/barrel. I have two Savage 22LRs and they both have front lugs. So, I used pillar bedding in the front and rear to stiffen it up a little. The Boyd stock was easy to work with and the pillars went in with no trouble. I also went ahead and bedded the back of the action, since there was a fairly big gap between the stock and action. If nothing else, it made it look better. I replaced the factory stock action screws, since they were woefully short, with only about 1/8" of threads holding everything together. The yodave spring swap was simple, but had a lot of initial bump fires, so I had to experiment with the shims. I went ahead and went to 1# on the trigger, it seemed fine when shooting and Im happy with the safety factor. I couldn't make it bump fire with a rubber mallet and didnt have any problems at the range today. The T-36 Weaver is working great and I almost shot a fly that was crawling on the target, LOL. For the money this scope is every bit as clear as my Leopold Competition BR scope, for 1/3 the money.
I will keep everyone posted as the progress of the CZ and me. Ive got a lot to learn about wind and reading flags, etc.
thanks ron

I do have a 455 and I do have two action screws, why did you think I only had one?? I had to go to Ace Hardware and buy two new ones because the ones that came with it were too short. I had to grind about 1/16" off of the new ones so that they tightened up the action against the pillars, but other than that was no big deal to do. The Boyd's stock is actually wood, painted with a rough finish, so installing the pillars was easy.
thanks ron

"...So, I started working on doing some bedding and accuracy work on it and when I pulled the action I was surprised to find no front lug on the action/barrel...."

Because most of the 452's have only one action screw and one front barrel lug screw. I apologize for not being clearer.

My CZ455 became a tac driver after doing a trigger job on it. To remove the creep make a sleeve for the center pin in the trigger and replace the trigger spring with a lighter one. Drill and tap the trigger guard and make an trigger over travel stop. I now have a 4oz trigger with no creep or over travel. I put a picatinny rail and a 4.5 x 14 leupold scope on it. Like all 22lr it shoots standard velocity bullets in tighter groups than high velocity bullets.

;DThanks Rustystud for the info. I did a yodave trigger job and have the trigger set at 1# and probably going to go down even further after some experimenting. I had to adjust the shims because I had a lot of bump fire problems, but am happy now with the results. Im going to spend several hours this weekend at the range and will be shooting 50,100 and maybe 200. Right now, my best ammo has been the ELEY Club and some old Winchester Match ammo Ive had for years. I just picked some CCI Match yesterday at Dicks's SPorting goods, so will be using that also.
thanks ron

I have the same gun that I've done some work on. I pillared and bedded the action, installed a DIP adjustable sear, picatinny rail, with a Vortex 6.5-20x50 in Burris signature zee rings. It shoots best @50 yds with Eley Match, but does well with SK Standard+, Eley Club, and Wolf MT/ME. Past 100 yds it shoots best with Eley Match and Center X.

I'm going to play around with bedding under the barrel to see if I can make the gun less sensitive to hold and shooting off of a bipod. After that, I might get a Lilja or Fedderson custom barrel for it.

Its a fun gun to shoot, especially with the 10 rd mags, but I hate loading .22 LR mags.

First IMO the CZ .22 is just inheritly accurate with its roots in the Burno target line that has been around since the 50s .
I have a couple of the 452 silhouettes that shoot extremely well for the money they cost . I don't shoot matches with them except for a bunch of friends getting together on the weekend to shoot fun matches. Every time there will be new challenges from swinging targets at 50 yds to water balloons to 250 yds to fly targets at 100 .
The CZ always shoots in the top 5 every weekend . The only thing I have done is replace the trigger spring with a lighter one and shortened the sear to reduce the travel .
The best help I could give is to advise you to buy and try as many kinds of ammo you can find and shoot alot and often . Mine like the Remington/ely target rifle inside of 150 yds after that the lapua kicks in then to my surprise out to 300 yds the centurion orange box does fairly well , all being relitave terms.
Just don't loose sight of having fun and enjoy the experience .

You may want to check out the CZ section on Rimfirecentral.com for accuracy tips on the 455. I am working on a CZ 455 American in 17 HMR and have learned a lot there. I have done the YoDave trigger job and had the barrel re-crowned. Probably the next step will be a bedding job. Pillar bedding the action and full length bedding the barrel seems to be the hot set up on 455's although there is some controversy about this. Good shooting! Vic

Have djdilliodon bed your 455. You will like his work and be happy you did. I had him pillar bed my 455 American 22 LR w/Lilja barrel and now the gun shoots everything into 1/4” at 50 yards. He’s the man to talk to for CZ rimfire bedding.

For the money, the YoDave trigger kit is hard to beat. The way he packages it and gives you several options to use is also excellent.

Here's mine

Pillars added and epoxy bedded
Yodave trigger kit

Started breaking and first ammo testing. Likes all RWS 0.5"/1"/1.5-2" at 50/100/200 meters.

Very nice!
A Boyds tactical stock should be my next upgrade.
Full bedding means barrel bedded as well?

All of the ones pictured are actually full length bedded but by fully bedded I meant pillars and glass bedded. 95% of the 455's will shoot excellent full length bedded but some will prefer to be free floated. Soon I'm gonna try gluing the lilja barrel in place and will bed the entire action area and just an inch of the channel. I'm curious to see if this will improve anything. Here are some pics of 455 stocks I've done full length bedded.

I have a factory heavy barrel and not sure if it prefers full bedding.
My project is having a F Class trainer for my kid for 100/200 meters and for that ranges I'm focusing on ammo brands selection trying to consider 5 shots in 1 MOA group, possibly.

The factory barrels are the same way. Only thing I do is slug them first and then check the chambers and leade. If that all checks out I'll Recrown and Lapp them. A decent barrel after that with bedding can easily shoot 1/2" or better at 50 yards. A real good factory barrel in 22 LR I've seen average in the .3's at 50 yards. The Liljas will average in the .2's pretty much 95% of the time. The other 5% takes floating the barrel and possibly only bedding part of the barrel channel to fine tune. Guys willing to run a tuner it's best just to free float it off the bat.
