New cz 457

hey yall I just bought and am waiting for my lgs to receive a 16.5 threaded cz 457 in a manners stock. (Super excited) I need some advise on what types of ammo to try out of it first. I see a lot of fellas have cz rimfires, thought maybe y’all could save me some headache and money. The guy I usually deal with at the gun shop says his (the mtr) likes a little slower round. So I’m all for recommendations and links if you know some good prices around. Also this will have a pst 5-25 and silencerco sparrow (when it gets outta jail, hopefully 2 more months). Just Incase suppression affects rimfire a than centerfire rounds.

Ps. I’m new to precision rimfire I’ve only have a 10/22 I also need cleaning advise for barrel breAkin and maintenance.

Try one box of Eley Tenex, Eley Match, Lapua Center-X, and Wolf MT. It will likely shoot at least one of them very well.

For barrel break-in and cleaning, you'll get about as many different replies as there are different approaches. Pick the one you like the best. I recommend simply shooting it. CZs are known for having a thick layer of nasty brown stuff in a new (unfired) barrel. Before the first firing, I used several patches of Hoppes #9 until the brown residue was gone, followed by a couple patches of Kroil, then one of Hoppes gun oil (with several dry patches after each solvent). For my 455, routine cleaning is a couple patches of each in the same order listed above. FWIW - once you remove the old built-up bullet wax and fouling by cleaning with organic solvents, it might take 10-15 rounds (or more) through the clean barrel before it settles in again. This is normal. I only use a brush after several range trips - you really don't need to get crazy with cleaning a rimfire barrel.

I also recommend using a .20 cal jag and cleaning rod (not a .22 cal). I use a Tipton carbon fiber, there are many other choices (https://www.btibrands.com/product/deluxe-1-piece-carbon-fiber-cleaning-rod/). Some shooters have noticed it can be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to get a .22 cal rod/jag through the bore in CZ rimfires. The thread on the .20 cal rod male end will likely be different than a .22 cal rod (i.e. 5-40 versus 8-32) ; a brass adapter will also be necessary if you want to use any attachments larger than .20 cal (such as a .22 cal bore brush, mop, etc.). The adapter is not expensive and it's a good idea to have one around just in case.

You'll also want a bore guide - I use the Possum Hollow #92 for my 455, I think it might also fit your 457, but check to be sure.

Midas + shot best in my 457 MTR.

Honestly... that likely has little bearing for what will shoot well in yours. There is no substitute for testing testing testing and more testing.

As said above... cleaning is another whole battlefield. I've had good luck with Kroil. Others bore tech. Make sure you clean the "carbon ring" that forms right at the case mouth / chamber intersction. MAJOR accuracy killer.

Welcome to "The Rabbit Hole." :)

Also....for plinking. suppressors are great. Love it. For matches....lose the suppressor. Gunks up bbl faster, degrades accuracy.

Thanks guys I didn’t think about the smaller cleaning rod. I’ll def have to pic one of those up. Y’all are awesome

the red box of sk match worked the best in mine. 3/8 group 5 shot at 50 yards my fathers gun shoot lapua x-act about the same size group. make sure that your action screws are tight from factory.
