New Custom 6.5 Creedmoor from Jon Beanland

I'm so happy with how this rifle turned out. The entire process was fun, albeit long. I decided to get into a bolt-action of some sort about a year ago and did some research and here's where I landed:

Bartlein 26" M24, 1:8, 4-groove
Kampfeld brake
Defiance Deviant Tactical
Surgeon DBM
Jewell trigger
McMillan A5 with KMW Loggerhead hardware
Atlas bipod
Seekins rings
Tangent Theta 5-25

Jon did a great job. I shot it out to 1,000 last week to gather DOPE and I have my first match this weekend. I'm shooting factory Hornady 140gr ELD-M. I don't load my own ammo yet.

Best group so far:

Seems to average just under 1/4 MOA with factory ammo (no complaints!)

NICE LOOKING RIG LOOKS LIKE IT MAY BE A SHOOTER I LIKE MY CREEDMOR TOO STARTED LOAD DEVELOPMENT WITH THOSE BULLETS IN MY RIFLE GOOD LUCK IN YOUR MATCH !!!!!

when/if you do start rolling your own, the 6.5Creedmoor site has plenty of recipes but typically, with 140gr bullets you will be looking at the 41-43gr of H4350 to get 2600-2750fps with a 26" barrel. Very easy to load for .5" aggregate groups at 100yds. It will require getting a little more meticulous to get under .4" aggs but just requires a little more work...which I consider fun anyway. I have a RPR that gets under .4" at 100yds over 20 shots off a competition rest if I take myself out of the equation as much as possible. You will have mucho fun with your rig.

You will not find a better or more professional gunsmith than Jon Beanland. Congratulations on the new build hope you have fun with it.

I don't quite understand (maybe I'm missing something?). Why would I load my own ammo with the hopes of getting 0.5" groups when I'm getting groups smaller than 0.25" with factory ammo?

Yeah, I'm really happy with this thing! I just shot an NRA 3x600 today and came in first place in my class. I was not expecting it. But in my first relay I put 8 shots in a row in the X Ring, which is about 3" in diameter. And those 8 shots were grouped about 1.5". That's 1/4 MOA @ 600 yards! I don't think I'll ever top that.

I have shot a lot of beanland rifles, buddy has 14 of them and man his craftsmanship is unbelievable. You will be pleased with that rifle as long as you have it.

Jon just did a hunting weight 6.5x47 for me. Fantastic work and super nice guy to work with. He will do all of my rifles in the future. Rifle shot a .16" 3 shot group @ 100y during load work up. No chance I can do that on the regular, but it is the smallest group I have ever shot with a centerfire rifle. I am not a particularly skilled shooter. All my rifles are hunting configured. The 6.5x47 has a 2b contour barrel and Edge fill stock.

0.16 MOA is sweet. Best I've done so far is that .17 MOA group the first time I shot it. But I'm averaging 0.23 MOA right now with factory ammo. I don't load my own, so I doubt I'll get better than that. But I'm not complaining haha! Jon definitely has a customer for life.

That is pretty good question. I think if I were you and could get more of that particular lot of ammo, I'd load up. Do save your brass for the future.

That's a great looking and great shooting rig.

Is that cerakote or what? I have a polished deviant action that I want painted. What do you reccomend?

Cerakote. I would recommend Cerakote on the receiver, but not the bolt. My bolt is Parkerized and it's very smooth. A friend of mine has a Deviant that is Melonited but mine feels smoother. Melonite also requires temps that are too high for the metal the bolt is made from. You could also try DLC or NP3 or something like that.

Jon Cerakote'd every bit of metal on my rifle with the exception of the trigger, bolt and bolt handle. I have a slilvery looking bolt and bolt handle and the rest of the gun is black. Looks kinda cool!

I'm on my fourth Beanland rifle. They all shoot well under a half inch, the workmanship is top notch, the freebore is exactly what I asked for, they were delivered on time, all my calls and emails were answered promptly, the man is a true professional. I'm a customer for life!

Wish you guys would shut up about Jon Beanland, fer cryin' out loud! At least till I get my third one built...

I was on a VERY widy range here in OK yesterday, fireforming cases and breaking in a brand new .20 PPC, and after an hour a guy sets up his rest & rifle two benches to my left. Couldn't hear what he was bragging about, but told him that gun looked like a Beanland build. I was right & he was rightly proud of that .338 Lapua!

Btw, my .20 PPC never once showed any blue/green out of that PacNor 3 groove.
