She said coyote attacks are "very rare," explaining that the animals "are part of our ecosystem here in Chicago and they have lived among us for generations."
"They prey upon small rodents ... generally they do not want any contact with people," she said.
Gandurski also stressed that coyotes are protected by state law and are allowed to roam free.
Officials will get involved in the event of an attack and if a coyote is in a place where it is not supposed to be, she said.
I met a guy at a range in Indiana from the city, he had a 30 cal air rifle that used a compressed air bottle (it was pretty loud). He was shooting coyotes with it to avoid breaking laws. He said the police were still trying to mess with him.I live in Illinois. (don't like to admit it)
You can hunt yotes 365 days a year from sun up to sun down.
From Nov. 15th - Mar 15th 24 hrs
That's part of the problem. Their numbers are growing, just the other night I
heard 4 different groups howling at each other from my backyard.
The IL. DNR gets a lot of calls and they want they dead.
I remember when I was younger, you never heard of coyotes east of the Mississippi.
Now they are everywhere.

Spclarck, who is “they?”
Well my personal feelings on this is, not being allowed to protect yourself by use of a firearm anywhere in the US is against the Law and Constitution of our once free country. so Chicago and its Mayor can go to hell. And I hope a big fat coyote bits him on the ass.Title 35, Article 47 of the Indiana Code. Article 47 defines “firearms” as “any weapon that is capable of expelling… a projectile by means of an explosion.” Airsoft & BB-Pellet guns, which are powered by compressed air, are not regulated by the state gun laws.
Airguns are not firearms. Up to now, they do not fall under ATF. Donald Trump jr. bought himself and his son two very nice pcps from Utah air guns a while back. Much can be said about that.
