New Chronograph Suggestions?

Well it finally happened: I killed my Chrony yesterday. AR-15 took it out with one shot! Oh well.

Anyways I'm in the market for a new chronograph. The last one was given to me so I never had to shop for one. What do you guys suggest? Around $200 is the absolute most I will spend. I would like the printer, but not a real necessity. Above all I want it to be accurate.

The Oehler 35P is out of the $200 range but the CED M2 is right in there.

My Pro-Chrono has worked very well for years. $120, $100 on sale. You can also get the remote for it which allows you to control the unit from the bench. Get a spare set of plastic sky screen dohickies for it while you have the c-card out as they will break in time from normal use, IME.

I had hear Oehler was making them again but didn't know for sure. I originally looked at the Oehler but the CED offered infra red skyscreens and more for a lower price.

I've been very happy with the CED unit, never a problem in 6 years.

Another vote for the CED M2. Have had one for six months and zero problems with picking up bullets.

Realy nice display features (one-touch ES's, SD's, Avgs) and PC interface to export into Excel or OpenOffice.

If I clang mine, I'd get another.

I know this is out of your price range, but I would like to help you save some money. I went through the process of buying all the lower end chronographs, then stepped up to the Oehler, then finally realized the PVM-21 is still out there. By the time I spent all my money on the other products I could have bought a PVM-21. This IS the Rolls Royce of chronographs. Easy to set up, easy to transport, and dead-on accuracy. You also get quickload/Quicktarget with your purchase.

Glad to see your reply, Barry. I have looked at the NECO unit on-line & wondered how good it is. I currently use a 35P w/ new printer and have it in a Square Peg kit. If I get another one, it would be a PVM-21 for all the reasons you mention.

+++1 on the PVM-21. Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten, or, as BAT likes to say, buy a BAT and only cry once.

I will join the chorus with Barry, Joe and Tony. My PVM-21 is a superb unit. Accurate, dependable, large active window (less chance of shooting it), full time IR and very good software. I have no regrets about the price.

+1 on the Pro Chrono with the remote. I would consider the remote a necessity as you can control the readouts from the bench and not have to wait for the range to "clear." And it is within your price range.
