New California LR Champion

Erik Cortina

Team Lapua Brux Borden Captain
Forum member Steven Blair (sleepygator) is the new California F-Open Long Range State Champion. Congratulations Steve!

Thank you, gentlemen. There were several competitors there who could just as easily have won. It came down to one point on the second day. Congratulations also to Peter White, who won the first day, F-Open, and Steve Raeder, who won the second day, F-Open. I was second both days and barely squeaked by Pete.

That's fantastic news! Big shout out and congrats to Steve! :D

It was hosted by the Coalinga Rifle Club, a fine bunch of folks that fed us, ran a tight match and made sure everybody was where they needed to be. A great experience at a new range for me. I plan on returning as soon as possible. [br]
A special note: They have the easiest target carriers that I have ever used, almost effortless. :) [br]

The CA. long range program was any/any, any/iron and the sling category was won by Bob Gill shooting a Palma rifle all the way...who needs a scope!!!
Pete

Sorry Rod, I have a weakness, only fun intended! Seriously, Mr Blair is one of our country's best and will help us keep the gold in our country at next year's world championship in raton. Mike

The top ten reasons to use a scope and shoot F-Class

#10 – You can’t see the front sight anymore.
#9 – It’s too damned hot to put on the sweatshirt and coat.
#8 – Even a Palma rifle is too heavy to hold up long enough to shoot.
#7 – The only thing you can tolerate around your arm is a blood pressure cuff.
#6 – You don’t have to shoot with those smug sling guys anymore.
#5 – You enjoy being treated like a second class citizen.
#4 – The gunsmith forgot to turn the muzzle end for the sight.
#3 – The occasional scope whack helps keep you awake.
#2 – You can actually see the target when you shoot. [br]
And the #1 reason… [br]
#1 – It looks like some damn fool put an MR-65 center on your LR target.

LOL on the top ten reasons.

I could do a top ten reasons on why I can't get into the prone position for more than a minute or two. ;) Well, maybe just one reason - body joints and muscles aren't as limber as they once were.

Pete's probably too modest to mention it, but he used to (maybe still does?) win state championships in metallic silhouette shooting. Which means he can shoot extremely well from the standing AND prone positions.

;D

Here's a couple of happy California guys. Aleta took some pictures of us after the match. Thanks, Aleta! [br]
Bob Gill at left with his Palma rifle and I'm the other guy. ;)
