New bullet powder combo 9mm

Out of the gate let me say my experience is hunting loads for 30-06, 2.5-06 and 6.5-06. So I of recent got a 9mm and 4lbs of zip from a neighbor and a few hundred 124 g Sig RN which had a tad bit of blow by at 4.3 grain at a COL of 1.15. I recently got 500 bullets which measure. 045 shorter than the Sig's. I loaded 10 of the new bullets exactly the same as previously done with Sig bullets and now have a case of major blow by. Purple/black on almost half the shell. I was thinking to seat at 1.14 before upping the powder to increase pressure. Wrong approach? Thanks in advance for your knowledge.

124gr Mil FMJ 4.3gr COAL 1.10.

Note, those are MAX loads!

What are you shooting them out of? Is there a chance the blow by you are seeing it from gases being present as the shell is ejected and not from the actual ignition? Seems like you are already on the upper end of the load so I surely wouldn't add powder.

Sounds like you are over max and extra gas/blow back is doing this. Reduce your load and see if it stops. Better safe than sorry.

Seating deeper in 9mm can cause unneeded pressure increases and can get dangerous fast.... Don't do it on a max power charge...

What type bullets, jacketed? What is their diameter? How are you sizing and crimping? What exact firearm are you shoting them in? Are you using one of those Lee fial crimp dies? And show us a pic of fired case and a profile view of a loaded round.

Bullet: Evergreen ballistics (local and excellent service) 124g, length:.570, diameter: .355
Sized with Lee sizing die and very light crimp with Lee factory crimp.

How do they print on the target? Does it discolor the brass the same in a different pistol.

I loaded 10 today at 3.9g seated to 1.155 will check it out tomorrow. The same load was fine with the Sig bullets which where flat on bottom these new ones are concave. Thanks for the input.

Results of previously mentioned 10 rounds. Shells not ejected. Only fired 2. Remember i have no experience with plated bullets and I shot almost 500 rounds with same loads with the Sig bullets with excellent results. I tore apart 1 of each. As you can see the crimp has groved the plated while not the Sig. Another point is how easy the plated came apart compared to the Sig. I am at a loss, only have a few hundred of Sig loads left.

Just fyi , plated should be fine , I have loaded seriously tens of thousands of berry bullets and fired them through multiple Glocks with zero problems.... Try using data for lead bullets when using plated bullets like Berry bullets.... That should keep you safe...

I load 4.2 - 4.3 grains of Winchester 231 at 1.150 and a 124gr berry's bullet with any non magnum primer and whatever brass is around , mostly blazer... You don't need to crimp , only remove the belling will work fine...

The picture you posted of the two bullets one which was crimped into the bullet I assume was the plated and the other a fmj... That crimp on the plated would be fine , it's soft and indents easy.... I have crimped them WAY harder in .38spl with a roll crimp with no problem...

I can't recommend using lead data enough with plated bullets since that's exactly what they are... Yes you can use fmj data at the low end but give the lead data a try.... You can find lead data in the Lyman reloading manual...

Western powder which I use in .223 has always seemed a bit hot and I wouldn't load their max 5.56 data without new brass.... You can NEVER have to many loading manuals...
