New build for Remington 700 action

Norma and Peterson both, make 6 XC Brass vs Lapua for, the 6 x 47 L
Read, a Chit Ton of "good stuff" about it and heard of, all the Happy users of, the 6 XC so, went with, IT !

All the criteria you mentioned in your post above is Screaming 6BR, like several have stated above. Accuracy and ease of load development is second to none. 300 yards is nothing to a 6BR. Uses less powder than a lot of the other cartridges listed above, great bullet selection and it is just a kick-the -ass to shoot. It will take most mediocre shooters and make them look like they know what they are doing.

I turned a 243 into a criterion 6br several years back and have no regrets. I like the 1:8 twist. I shoot the 105 berger hybrids but it will stabilize lighter if you so choose. Light recoil and accurate.

Here's my .02cents on this. Truthfully, if you're inside 500 yds the little BR cartridge is stellar.. No one disputes that. They do shoot great! and are a little easier on powder although not by much. I opted to re-chamber to XC over the little BR because I was tired to the short little br brass falling off the bolt face (inside the action) on extraction, forcing me to retrieve it with my fingers all the time. Very annoying! Fast forward to the XC and mine shoots every bit as good as my BR did with only 8 more grains powder. I'd never go back. This is only one mans opinion. I hope it helps you to have more information to make your own decision.

I'd probably look at something like a 6 or 6.5x47 Lapua. Of course there is always the 6mm BR that is well known for being a great shooter but if I wanted a smooth reliable feeding repeater and based on your parameters I'd probably pick the 6.5x47 Lapua and run it as is or neck it down to 6mm or maybe even 22.

I absolutely love my 6.5x47 Lapua, it’s an 8” twist 32” barrel on a Rem 700 VSSF II that is trued, 1/4” pinned tapered lug and Sendero contour. I use it in F-class on occasion, and it is an absolute tack driver.
Love the fact that the Lapua brass runs SR primers, brass lasts forever.

Cheers.

Maybe a 6 GT? Dasher + performance and should feed if you want to use magazine.

We re doing that case necked to 22 and shooting 88 ELDM s ..... Getting easy 3050-3100 FPS with 27” barrels so should be a fun target and Varmit cartridge. Something different anyway.

The more I read about the 6BR, the more I see about feeding issues from a magazine. So now I’m thinking I will build a long range rig that will go well beyond 1000 yards. I have another range I can go to for steel and the like. I know this changes my original parameters, but with the great difficulty of getting new components I think it would be extremely hard to take up a new caliber and get all that I need. The 6mm Creedmoor looks like the winner.

That 7-08 is an awesome cartridge for hunting and target work inside your 300 yards. Why would you assume it should be discarded? If that bbl is burned up, putting another 7-08 on there is worth taking a second look.

It has a very good reputation in metallic Silhouette. That is because it could knock the 600 yard ram plates down effectively. So we are already talking about a design known to be very efficient. You can buy factory hunting ammo in good reloadable cases, as well as the highest quality brass like Lapua for example. Brass used to be necked down from 308, and that can still be done if you want to take advantage of available 308 cases.

So I wouldn't be so quick to abandon a cartridge that most other folks would flock to. It throws a 140 grain Partition at over 2800 fps which is over 2400 ft*lbs, or a 175 Partition at over 2600 fps which is over 2600 ft*lbs. That means on paper it kills at distances like 600 to 800 yards as effectively as most 30-06 loads with less powder and recoil.

7-08 punches well above it's weight and is one of those inherently accurate designs for target work due to the high BC bullets. Before you discard it, I would recommend taking a second look.

This.

I would look at something in the 7mm class at least, I shoot allot of 6mm past a 1000y and if the wind starts switching the bigger calibers have a bit of an advantage at those extended ranges and the mid size 7s have a good balance of ballistics vs recoil vs running cost. Long barrel 7-08AI with a 180gr Hybrid and something like RL26 sending it on its way would be a nice option imo, 180gr Hybird doing 2750/2800fps if you step on it a bit should be plenty and its a very accurate cartridge
