New blue box lapua 6BR is thicker by .002

Later batches of blue box have been thicker. A lot of guys out
there are still using .270.8 necked reamers thinking they are no turn
for Sling and F Class. Yikes.

I am not doubting your findings DJ. I bought 5 boxes about this time last year Measuring with a Mitutoyo mic with modified tip .0001. Necks where in the .0123 to .0129 range. I was a little disappointed because the consistency wasn't what I normally have seen with Lapua. I made a clean-up pass on the necks and went on.

I have the Mitutoyo modified Mic also. Almost every case I ever measured was a half thousandths difference from thick side to thin. It didn't matter if it Lapua, Norma or RWS. That is why I prefer to shoot a tighter neck and turn the brass. Matt

+1 on what Matt said plus i have a lot that .011 neck wall thickness and my last lot is .0125 depending where you measure around the lumps...... jim

I have a regular set of starrett one inch mikes I don't know how old the brass is its several months ago it mikes at 269 an few tenths with a berger bullet unturned brass.

Then measure your bullet at the pressure ring the .0001, then measure the loaded round at the pressure ring at at least two places around the neck. subtract that from the bullet diameter at the pressure ring and divide by two will the case wall thickness. This is a very ruff measurement......

Well you can always tell a marine you just can't tell him much.

I've got orders for two new Dasher bbls, and was thinking of sending my old 6BR Ubl Improved reamer w/.274" neck in to have it reground for .272" - believe I'll just leave it as-is and do those chambers - plus one for myself - with the .274" neck. Better safe than sorry....and why worry about a small theoretical improvement in accuracy with a tighter neck when these bbls are all for either MR prone or practical steel matches anyway?

Just received 2 blue boxes of 6 BR Lapua...neck walls vary from .012 to .014 with the majority at or close to .013. I plan on cleaning these up to around .0125 which should give a clearance of .003 for a .271 neck

Is your neck a .272 ??
I have not decided if I am going to go with the barrel makers reamer which is .272". If decide to buy a reamer I will have it made at .271 to keep tolerances a bit tighter. I imagine .272 would give ok results at .004" clearance but that's getting on the sloppy side, even if it is for rats and pd's.

I did run .005 for long time won several VFS matches, shot 1/4 moa 5 shots 200 yd I ran it 2500 rounds so I retired it, was then shooting 1 moa or a bit better at 200, so got a new one.
