New Bergers?

I am currently load developing with it. So far I have not had outstanding results in a 6BR, but I have not finished with it yet. I do know it still prefers being jammed to being jumped in spite of what many say...

A rifle shooting better when jammed or jumped is a normal part of load development. When we say that the Berger BT,non-VLD) bullets are not as sensitive we mean that they are not as sentivie as VLDs. This does not mean that they will not shoot better at a particular COAL in a given barrel.

Some of those who have shot VLD find that they are not precise at all until they put them into the rifling, this is not always the case). The BT will be more precise at different COAL than the VLD but will still benefit from COAL adjusting if one is so inclined to make these tweaks in the interest of load development for better results.

If anyone has understood that I have said that the Berger BT is capable of the highest level of precision at any COAL then I have misstated my opinion or been misunderstood. Berger BT are easier to make shoot precisely than Berger VLD. This does not mean that Berger VLD might not shoot at the first COAL you try nor does it mean that Berger BT shoot most precisely in your rifle at any COAL.

I hope this clears things up a bit.

Regards,
Eric

Eric. I am going to try the 108 Bergers in a 6mm Ackley that Kevin Rayhill is building for me. What powders and loads would you recommend? Is there an ideal velocity range for this new bullet?

We don't have pet loads but Walt can supply you with a full spread of min and max loads. Send him an email at bergerltd@aol.com with the subject of loading data request. Tell him the cartridge and bullets you are using and he will reply usually the same day.

There are likely some folks on this forum who can provide you with loads that have worked for them as well. Another option is to do a search using 108 gr and you will likely get a list of several postings some of which will include pet loads.

We have not done testing that will tell us which velocity range is best for the 108 gr. Feedback on the 105 gr VLD indicates that 2,900 to 3,100 is very popular. The 108 gr will likely be similar but the best thing to do is try them in your rifle at different loads, ladder test) to see where it shoots best.

Eric

Golfer, Welcome aboard. You may think Eric was blowing you off by not recommending a specific load, he was not. Each rifle barrel combination is different when best accuracy load is concerned. There is no one size fits all answer. For load development, look at what some of the guys here are reporting for accurate powders and bullets in the twist you are using and begin with the lighter powder charges. Work with your new rifle to see how well it will perform. This process is part of the fun with a new rifle.

The 6mm A.I. should be loads of fun, no pun intended. Try some of the Berger bullets as they are very accurate. Give us some feedback on how the new rifle works out. Good luck, Ken.

Thanks Klong. I have spoken to Eric before and know he is a good guy. I do know that predictable Wildcat loads are hard to come by. I always start well below anybody's Pet load. The rifle will have a 26" 1-8 twist barrel. Most of the discussions here are for 6mm cartridges other than the 6MM AI.

Hi Everybody,
I started shooting the Berger 108 grain 6mm bullet last Summer. In my 6mm BR, 1 in 8" twist barrel, i shot five-five shot groups with an aggregate of .189. I am jamming the bullets into the lands about .005 and use Varget powder.
