New Berger .224 Bullet

I played around with the 95SMK and 85.5 about 2 years ago in a new 22BRX, 6.5 twist, 34 in straight pipe. Had the 85.5 up to 3248fps and they held together, i.e. no failures over 3 shots at 3248 and 5 shots per from 3000, 3100, 3200, 3250ish. Note: This was not a safe load. As Ray Gross and Morgen Dietrich has indicated, I have found the 85.5 to suffer more from random fliers than jacket failures in both the 223 and 22BRX. Drew
Drew - did you length-sort the 85.5s in any way, or attempt re-pointing them in an effort to minimize the number of random flyers? I have found that precision with the 208 Hybrids seems to benefit from from doing this.

I did length sort them, but not re-point. I was thinking about re-pointing the 208s to gain some consistency, so good to know

I have fired them from 7.5T/.219, 7T/.218 and currently 6.8T/.218 - all @ 32” finish with velocities up to 3140 fps with no blow ups. I was constantly stepping on them to achieve 3k - 3050 for the Palma rifle. Never lost a bullet in 2 years.

@ Perry in 2021 I was about to pull my hair out chasing erratic elevation. I had been chasing it all year to be honest and just never realized it. I was hanging on for dear life to shoot 190 @ 1k all week long. After 3 days of slamming my hand in the car door I switched to the 308 and with the 155.5 my sanity was restored. That was enough of the 85.5 for me.

Recently I have heard of some folks shooting them at lower speeds. Like 2850-2900 and having good luck 600 and in. Maybe I will give them a shot for mid range but honestly at this point for 600 and in I think I will just stick with N135 / 8208 / H4895 or 2000MR and an 80.5 and shoot 90s for 1k.
