An old worn out cartridge; 30/06!

Before a thunderstorm ran me off I fired 5 rounds and me thinks I shall have to buy me a new throughbolt for my clanger. Shot this from 600 yards....4 rounds smacked the bolt head and I called one slightly high and it's just above the bolt head! I don't think I'll send it back!! Bolt head 1.75" diameter.

You gotta be kidding me,that worn(one of my favorite's) out old cartridge is quite amazing and never seen one shoot that good.Jon does some mighty fine work. You will love this rifle till the barrel is worn out. What is your load and I know to work up,but curious all the same.Whose barrel and reciever is it.

Good looking rifle. Don't ever underestimate the 30-06. It is a great round and often overlooked today with the magnums. I am building a 280, 280 Ackley, and a 30-06 right now for customers. You might Give Swift Sciroccos a try. Clean your barrel very well and then foul it with 10 rounds using Sciroccos. They are a special alloy jacket and need to run in their own fouling. I shoot the 150 grainers with a stout load of H-4831 SC. They are running at 3,150 and shoot the same as my 300 Win Mag with 180's to 300 yards.

I fired the first ten rounds yesterday cleaning after each shot. Had a little copper at first but using a good copper cleaner by end of the ten..no copper remaining! Fired 38 rounds so far and I can detect no copper after cleaning today. I'll check tomorrow with a bore scope!

I've shot many Sciroccos over the years and in all of my rifles they have performed way past 'up to snuff'! Thanks for the info!
