New barrel help 243 AI Twist for 105 A-Max

I am more confused then when I started all this! I called Shilen to order a 243 AI barrel for my Savage 10FP. This will be mostly a target weapon but nice to shoot game, deer) if needed. Goal is to use heavy bullets for high BC,I was thinking 105 A-Max). I discussed this with Shilen and was told 1 in 10 twist was fine, the other choice was 1 in 8 but they said that was for heavy VLDs). I am confused as it seems 1 in 10 seems to be for lighter bullets based on what I have read here but I assume the people at Shilen know a lot more about this than I do. Can someone please tell me if I will get good accuracy with 100g+ bullets in 243AI?

ahhhhh.... YES !!

115 DTAC in a 243AI 507 yards.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5Z0c_Ic7G0 any questions

mj2evans,

A 10 tw would be borderline for a 105 Amax. I have shot 10tw for 95 gr and lighter. A 10tw may shoot the Amax, but it would not shoot any other 105 to 108 gr bullets. I would go with an 8. then you could shoot everything but maybe the 115 DTAC. Yes a 243AI would do great with all heavy bullets.

I like to twist for what I am going to shoot. If you want to shoot 100+ don't limit your self to one bullet. If it does not shoot, then you will limited to 95gr or less. Been there done that.
