New barrel coming

Because of a mistake on my part I've fubared the barrel on my Vanguard 223. The gunsmith said he's never seen a barrel installed this tight. Like so tight we cant get it loose. That means cut the shoulder off to relieve the tension so it can be removed.

A new Shilen in 20 cal is on the way from Bruno's.

Lesson learned, on brass you don't know always always run them through a full length size die. Yes I have a live round stuck 3/4 of the way into the chamber. Barrel has spent a few days soaking in oil to kill the round.

The Howa's are famous for having extreemly tight barrels, your rifle is just living up to expectations. Lessons such as this are very much like all history, it is only valuable if you learn from it. But we all know that you have been wanting a new barrel, now you have an excuse to get it.

You can heat the reciver ring some to help with a propane torch. It usually works. The second you heat it enough to get it hot so you couldnt handle it,smack the wrench and should come apart with no damage to the reciever or barrel.Always use rosin to avoid slippage.

+1 Unless it was galled by the factory, if it screwed on, it'll unscrew.

I think heating it up is out of the question since he has a live round stuck in the chamber.

This is my thoughts as well

The purpose of the heat is to create movement. A small amount concentrated on one spot on the outside of the receiver for a short period of time could allow the barrel to break loose. We're not talking getting the action over a couple hundred degrees. As to the round blowing up, full auto guns get a lot hotter and I've never heard of ammo blowing up in them when they stop firing and don't the benchrest guys fire fast enough to get them over 600F?
