New Barrel Cleaning

KMart

Gold $$ Contributor
I just received a new SS barrel from PacNor. I would like to clean out anything left over from the machining/lapping process before I get it to the smith for fitting. What should I use for this process?

Ken: When I get a new barrel blank I'll run a couple of wet patches (Butch's) down the bore, followed by a couple of dry. With my Kriegers, Hart's and Shilen's I always check the first patches for any signs of debris, and have never found any, of anything. Before my machinest begins his work I then check the bore with my Hawkeye. Did catch one barrel with unacceptable reamer marks and it was returned for re-lapping. It turned out to be very accurate and very easy to clean. ;)
