New Barrel - Borescoped

Got a borescope, thought I'd run it down a new barrel I've got, simply because I've never looked down a new barrel. These marks are about half an inch after the rifling starts. Does it look concerning or just shoot it and see what happens?

Borescopes are great tools and those two irregularities do not look good, but man, borescopes have lead me to change barrels that were shooting great, over cleaning barrels to the point of damaging their consistency and loosing confidence in barrels that were shooting cleans.

So, all that said, how does that barrel shoot?

Hank

I know, I know. Haven't shot it yet, looking for advice on if I should try it or see if the Smith wants to do something about it before shooting.

I wouldn't shoot that barrel. It's brand new. Perhaps it won't hurt the accuracy or rate of fouling, but it sure won't help.

Convince me otherwise. I'll willingly admit it if I'm thinking about this wrong.

Also, there's this "thing" in the chamber that seems to align with scratch marks left on new brass. Thoughts on what this could be?

You'll have to include some more images for me to be able to make heads or tails out of that. I've no idea what that is because there's no reference apart from your stating that it's in the chamber somewhere. Likewise with your previous images.

Having said that, I can't think of a good reason that I'd be comfortable with where ANY of the things you posted thus far would be OK with me.

Frankly, it looks like a train wreck.

@Dusty Stevens is right. The barrel is new and unfired. You don’t need to accept that work.

Hank

Editing this to give some unsolicited advice. Don’t post any more about this chamber job to the forum. Contact the gunsmith and see if they’ll take care of the problem.

you’ve already seen enough to know that you’re not happy, and with good reason. Don’t give the gunsmith or the shop any reason to think you aren’t acting in a professional manner. Give them a chance to fix it.

Who cares how it shoots if I bought that it would be going straight back the way it came that way they have no way of weaseling out of a warranty claim

I recently had an experience where someone sent me a barrel to have them make into a prefit for them. I didn't check the barrel I didn't really care they sent it to me I did my work and sent it back. And then they made claims that there were flaws inside the barrel. I told him it was his barrel and I didn't boriscope it for flaws He sent it to me.

And then I realized what an incredibly precarious situation you would be in receiving people's barrels and chambering them and then returning them to the customer and then the customer can make any kind of claim they make afterwards and say you did it. I'm not really sure I want to chamber anymore barrels from blanks that people provide to me because it simply their word against mine in the end.

A lot of judgement is being rendered here with many unanswered questions, though we all can agree that there are issues with this barrel, but with that said what was it that you purchased and paid for? I go back to the old saying, " You get what you paid for".

I keep a laptop in my shop... If someone brings me a barrel I'll scope it and record a video of it.

These threads give me nightmares.

At some point you have to make a living. After doing all the CYA, and then there is shipping and their stuff, and it getting destroyed or lost (which ultimately be on the gunsmith too). Dealing with ATF stuff, etc etc by the time you get done you have cut your labor rate in half and the stress rate is tripled.

That is just my assessment.

When I had a guitar store and we did guitar repair, I realized if one customer guitar got dropped it could ruin all of my profit for three months.
