New AR Class in Bench Rest

Well its being tried out. Do you think it might lead to a resurgence for the .222 Rem and .222 Rem Mag? I think those are more accurate than the .223 based on anecdotal evidence.

If they are used in score shooting I'll be suprised if any .224 rifles dominate these matches. I'd look for some 30 Cal. AR rifles to be the ticket.

The whole idea is to promote accuracy. A 222 or a 222mag would be fine.
How about the 6 br or 6brx or ppc class?
It's up to you. so far no caliber restrictions.
I think it's a good idea from two stand points
Promote accuracy on the AR platform
Promote more accuracy shooters.
This should be fun for the AR shooters.

If the original poster was referring to the IBS organization, there is not a caliber specific class. I have watched IBS score benchrest change from a sport dominated by the 6PPC to a sport which is now pretty much dominated by the 30BR. It kinda tickles me that some of the newer score shooters are all "hepped up" to try this new AR thing and, have completely ignored the Hunter and Varmint Hunter classes. There is where the real challenge lies. Doing the 250-20X thing with a 10lb. rifle and a 6X scope. JMHO.

Right on Doctor.
For the most part, though, your comment is falling on deaf ears. Somehow I just don't see the 6X guys and candidates shooting an AR. Nor do I envision an AR shooter ever embracing the Hunter rig. You may see ARs with March 80X scopes, though. Me? I prefer traditional score shooting with the VFS Class or the Hunter/Varmint Hunter Class.

I dont even own an AR, but am curious about what might happen.
I just want to get small groups within the limitations I have of money, time, powders, bullets and most importantly the lack of talent. :)

Bear in mind the ARs won't be competing with the benchrest rifles on an even basis. They will only be competing at the same time at the same place in their own class. It's no different than the Hunter and Varmint Hunters shooting at the same time as the VFS rifles. The rules haven't been drawn up yet so stay tuned. But to say that the .223s can't compete isn't exactly right just yet. It should be interesting to see Nascar and Volkswagens competing.
It was foolish of me to assume everyone was talking score. Never the less, the same holds true in IBS group matches.

This AR does pretty good with iron sights, might it do better with a scope?

Seems to me that some years back John Feamster shot an AR at oe of the larger bench rest matches and finished better than last, more like mid-pack. Seems he should have used a brass deflector as one of the officials shooting on the next bench was pelted by the occasional piece of hot brass.
