New Action Coming Soon

Anschutz, Hall, Remington, Sako, Turbo, ULA and Winchester have used horizontal locking lugs. Nothing new.
You are talking about 3 and 4 lug designs i believe. that or rim fire rifles. This I knew.

I believe that the reference to horizontal lugs was to their position with the bolt handle in down and the action locked up ready to fire. On the cocking cam angle thing, that is a function of pin fall and degrees of bolt rotation required to cock. What a larger diameter does do is reduce unit loading on the sliding or rolling surfaces, typically the cam and cocking piece. Is this thing going to be available with a roller cocking piece?

Feb 8 2014 , grimstods new design . I may be old but my memory is still good .
Your right. Ya i got to get back to working on that. I have learned a lot more since then. Going to make an aluminum prototyps soon to test the cycling from mags.

You gotta pull the firing pin back a certain amount whether the bolt is 2"dia or 1/2". Thats why the 60deg 3 lug bolt lift is horrendous you got less rotation to do the same work. Nothing to do with bolt diameter

I made my living as an engineer before i was able to afford to be a full time gunsmith. Just say you pull a 20lb spring .150 in 90deg that takes less than pulling the same spring back .150 in 60deg rotation. Thats why a 2 lug hall action with its big dia bolt is the same as cocking say a panda not counting the drag of the additional surface area which doesnt amount to much

Dusty,
Don't sell yourself short w/ reference to a 3 lug bolt lift.
Improper location & timing doesn't help the pitfall.

I'll keep the proven Barnard P-O2-
wide/fat body bolt
3 lug
correctly timed
trigger group second to NONE !

If this new creation accepts a Rem pattern trigger group - YAHDA,YAHDA,YAHDA!

Dusty, test it. I agree with your theory, but I have cut a lot of cocking ramps. Like Dan said, its all in the geometry of the ramp.

I did test a bunch when dwight first came out with the roller cocking piece. Installed em on a bunch of 2 lugs. Also did a lot of vibration and sound analysis on fire control mods when i had access to that type equipment

Ok dan ill give you that. Ill Amend my statement to bat 3 lug actions

Dusty,
Swing the bolt on an RPA Quad....abortion.
Compared to the above mentioned action, a Bat 3 lug is an engineering marvel !

I screwed up on my remark about cocking cam angle. Think about it. The cocking cam angle is like the smallest angle in a right triangle, and the total firing pin fall, or lift is like the side opposite it, if we change the diameter of the bolt, the length of the hypotenuse (the cam face) gets longer, but the total fall (side opposite the angle) stays the same, so the angle gets smaller. My Bad.

$1850 for another "Joe blow run-of-the-mill" action with almost nothing new or innovative in design? No thanks, not for me.
Are you sure its just like everything else currently on the market? It shares traits with no other action currently made and dwight scott wouldnt put his name on it just to get recognized- it had input from actual top shooters not just a dream.

The biggest thing lug contact, squareness, and firing pin guidance. Remember a Stiller is 50% PTG. This action has some features that do set it apart. A full Diameter 2 lug will open very nice due to the shallower cocking ramp angle allowed by the large diam. bolt. There is no lug race way, so it will be very safe in an over pressure. I also think the full diameter bolts run smoother do to not having lugs to bind. I hope to get to handle one of these to really look it over. The big thing will be the fire control, that will make or break it IMO.

So PT&G makes something bad?
