New 700 build questions

I've never had a custom rifle built ... Have check out a few custom actions but that would be for a different project... Let's say I have a 7mms barrel blank that I want to use to make a 7 mag and that's it i would need to purchase everything else .. I would like to use a 700 action.. Not set on trigger...and not including stock.. And would want the muzzle threaded on barrel .. What would be an estimate ball park on price do you gentleman think it would be?

What ever your budget is, double it. ;) Atleast that what it seems to happen to me and my buddies. I can say from expieriance that if you go cheap, it will cost more in the long run. There is alot of choices that will affect the price of your rifle. The action, stock, trigger, bottom metal or magazine, finish, barrel, and the smith's labor. And then your get to the scope. I can't make myself put a cheap scope on a custom rifle, or any rifle for that matter at this stage of my life. There was a time when the best I could do was a Vari-X 2 3x9 and that was all I could afford, period. I would rather wait and save the money or do a little at a time on better quality rifle components and smith than to go cheap and take short cuts to get the rifle done now.

I agree cjames... I already have a scope fedish... and that's why I'm just trying to figure out some pricing to decide what way to go or do or order of things... sort of out in wind while it changing directions and trying to get a bearing on ideas and cost of those ideas..

Action - 400
Scope base - 50
Trigger - 150
Stock - 350
Brake - 100
True action - 300
Chamber - 300
Thread for brake - 75
= $1725

All prices are ball park and can go up or down.

Glass will set you back a bit as well.

With a new rem 700 action, I would save my money on truing. Buy the action as action only, rather than buy a cheap 700 and part it out; they have much better fit and finish. For a high power round you'll want to bush the bolt and thread the bolt handle, probably have it timed. Finally i'd add a side bolt release. My suggestions probably add up to net zero change in cost. --Jerry
